Where is Rantanen?

He absolutely drove play, especially when MacK was injured.
I realise this is an Avalanche board argument rather than main board, but this narrative seems to be taking on "Byram is a top pairing defenseman because of 6 games in the SCF" levels of history re-writing. MacKinnon missed 11 games in 22-23. If a top line forward can't manage 11 games without someone doing all the work for him then something's badly wrong somewhere.

I can imagine this has something to do with it. Is there another example of 100p scorer who was traded from his first NHL team after 10 years mid season without his knowledge?

There aren't many players who play with one team for ten years to begin with but to have that connection being ripped from you without your knowledge within a short amount of time must be a tough situation.

In addition to losing your teammates I would guess it has an impact on self esteem too when you thought you were important to your franchise. Almost must feel like a betrayal.

Goodness gracious, don't make excuses for him. He got 96 million reasons and his desired playing location, to boost his self-esteem. If he's still sulking about the Avs trade presently, then he is a liability and will continue to be one, as long as Dallas and Colorado play in the same division. He needs to stop moping, and play better.
He hasn’t been a play driver for a long, long time and needs somebody else to do that for him.

Hintz as his center isn’t that guy.

Hintz seems to do just fine with Robo. This is a Mikko problem if he cannot figure out his shit. Hell, shoot a bit more than you have in this series for starters.

Joe Pavelski had a similar situation:

His ppg of the last three seasons in San Jose:

  • 0,83
  • 0,8
  • 0,85
His ppg of the first season in Dallas:

  • 0,46
His ppg of the next three seasons in Dallas:

  • 0,91
  • 0,98
  • 0,93

DeBoer said it took Pavelski almost a full year to feel comfortable on the ice with Dallas and his stats tell a similar story
Which was under Bowness and in a very D-focused, low-event system.

Defending Rantanen by saying the entire Dallas offence is dry is lame. Of course the focus will always be on your best players. If no one on the Oilers is scoring, people aren't going to care if Connor Brown is underperforming, all the eyes will be on McDavid, as it should be.

These are crucial times for how Rantanen's career will be looked on, whether people like it or not.

Correct, there is an adjustment period to a new team - I don't care what he does this year (and I posted that weeks ago btw) and its funny all the stat watchers after a trade.

Time and time again people are fascinated with small sample stats after a trade it's hilarious. I still remember when Gurianov was going to be a superstar in Montreal
Gury was crap for most part. Montreal fans screaming for him over a small sample size doesn't change that. Conversely, I don't think Mikko is crap, but he needs to be a lot better than he has been. Sorry, but not buying that this is an "adjustment year" for him. I do care what he does this year and every single one of his $12M contract. I look to Brad Richards circa 2008 as a comparative example, who did just fine without Stars' 1D guy in Zubov to start vs the defending champs. That's what I want from him.

You just said “should make a where is Necas thread” where I simply stated that most Avs fans would agree Necas hasn’t been good. I simply answered your question

I was meme'ing about making the thread. I'm not being serious, I don't care if both players have 4 GP 1 Assist.

Series is 2-2. Rantanen makes a difference in Dallas winning 2 of 3 (and the series) and his being mostly invisible so far will be forgotten.

I dont think you understand what an excuse is. I was just analyzing the situation. What factors led to another things. If I study the roots of violence in relation to ones upbringing it doesnt mean I accept violence....
Please stop wirh the strawman and false-equivalence. We're talking about a sport where trades are common and players have to take that in stride and move on. Not the roots of violence. It's not as if Mikko experienced what Peter Zezel did with Brian Burke. He and Avs couldn't agree on term and $$ and he was dealt. FFW to now, he IS exactly where he wants to be, and soon to be earning the $$ he wanted to earn. I think that at this point, that is a safe assumption. If he is still shocked and moping about Jan 25, 2025, then that's his problem and he needs to be professional about it.

I thought he was quite good in games 2 and 3. Game 4 he was shitty, but so was the whole team minus Oettinger and Bichsel at times. But he definitely needs to start converting "looking good" into offence. He could start by not deferring so much and just shoot the puck.
Indeed! 1 SoG per game isn't going to get you anything.

The trade didn't originally happen because of him. Just because he could affect the outcome of the second trade doesn't mean getting blindsighted by the first one didnt affect him in the way I described.

Also I dont think you know what a strawman is. Or false equivalence. So again: me saying factors a, b and c might affect the outcome y doesn't mean I accept the outcome y.

Trades are common in this sport but again it's a whole different thing being traded from your first NHL team that you were a part of for 10 years. You willingly turn a blind eye to this factors. They are there whether you like it or not as Rantanen is just human like others and he was blindsided by all this.
