Dubas: 'Good to have Jesse' still

Kyle Dubas was in Ottawa for the World Junior Championship on Thursday and spoke with Finnish outlet Ilta-Sanomat about Jesse Puljujarvi still. Main takeaways:

• Dubas expected Puljujarvi to be claimed when they waived him, and is "surprised" he didn't. "Jesse hasn't been in the lineup, so after all the work he's done, we wanted to make sure he gets a chance to play if another club wants him," he said.

• It's not in the immediate plans to send Puljujarvi to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton after clearing waivers. "It's good to have Jesse with the team now on the road trip in case someone gets injured, gets sick or plays less well," Dubas said.

• Dubas cited the Philip Tomasino acquisition and the team playing well since sitting Puljujarvi as factors in Puljujarvi remaining out of the lineup.

There's no eye test or metric that exists that says Acciari, Nieto, Hayes play better than Puljujarvi. The best bottom 6 line was Puljujarvi, Lizotte, Glass. And it's not even close on any combination after that.

Sullivan is a piece of shit for saying the players in the lineup have earned it and that those that are not playing have not. He's not a serious coach that should be anywhere near a team attempting a rebuild at any stage. He's pure bullshitting garbage, who has tanked the value of not only Puljujarvi, but the value of Glass, Doc, Beau, Pettersson, by insisting on playing the likes of Acciari, Nieto, Hayes in important situations with much more icetime.

The only player that has increased his value is Gryz, but that's because Sullivan has galaxy brained everyone into believing the best offensive defenseman of our generation is not capable of properly running his amazing powerplay system that only a genius could invent. f*** sakes.

lol…

In a season where the only job really was to manage assets for the big picture I find this to be a missed opportunity for the team to try and get better along the margins. I also think it is lame to have a player work back from the kind of surgery Puljujarvi went through, get healthy, play well for a bottom six player, then get froze out for lesser players. Mike Sullivan is infatuated with defending to a fault at times and his team is the fifth worst xGA/60 team in the league at 5v5 (2.74). While Puljujarvi’s strength is not defending his overall xGF% is 52.23. His overall needle is in the positive. Nieto’s xGA/60 is very good relative to his teammates at 2.21. Unfortunately, he is such a bad offensive player his overall xGF% is 36.01, a team worst mark. Sometimes you have to ditch your stylistic preferences when the results aren’t matching the kind of team you want.

I used to follow him on Twitter but I got rid of that shit hole app... Shame, as it's still quite good for hockey related news and opinions, but the racism, misogyny and fascism kind of ruin the benefits of that site. Maybe he's on bluesky
