Speculation: Where does Holtby go?

He signs a 1 deal with a contender and hopes to have a better windfall after the cap rises again possibly after coming 20/21 season.

Edit.

Another idea if Markstrom wants too much and NTC might be smart for Vancouver to sign Holtby to a reasonable deal without an NMC so he's available for the expansion draft. Heck even sign him for a 1-year deal themselves and let Markstrom walk if he wants too much?

Why does Calgary need another LW? They already have Gaudreau and Tkachuk. Granted, I think Treliving makes plenty of bad UFA signings, but it doesn't make sense really.
Sign Hall and then trade Guadreau is the general sentiment

I don’t think anyone’s gonna give him the contract he’s looking for. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him take the same contract as Simmonds did last year looking to rebound and get a big contract next year. 1 year, lots of money to a bad team that looks to flip him at the deadline.
Ridiculous post.

Holtby has actually been very good this season IMO. He had 1 rough month around December/January but after that he was really really solid.

Don't know but from what I read and heard as rumors, the Flames were after him at the deadline.

Buffalo I could see throwing dumb money at him, Edmonton is another one depending on if they win the cup or not.

Murray is another guy to keep an eye on, but I think Ottawa gets him.

Neither of Colorado's guys are better than Holtby, that's just not true, unless of course your opinion is based off a season that didn't even finish which would be ridiculous

Who cares if the season didn't finish? Holtby played 48 games this season and had a 0.897 SV%, 52nd among the 57 goalies to play at least 20 games. Grubauer played 36 games and had a 0.916 SV%, good for 18th best. Francouz played 34 games, and had a 0.923 SV%, 6th best. I think that's a pretty decent sample size to try to figure out how they will most likely play going forward. There's no reason to pretend that Colorado will get pre-2017 Holtby when he very clearly hasn't been that guy recently.

Really you are going to base your opinion on 1 year? that's ridiculous by itself but especially ridiculous when that year didn't even finish

Really you are going to ignore 2017/18 and 2018/19 where he played at league average or below? The only reason he has value is the Cup win and he even started that post-season as the back-up to Grubauer.

Bar a 23 game run in the spring of 2018, Holtby has not been good or even worth his existing contract since 2016/17.

Mans posted an .897 SV%. You can’t tell anybody else that their post is a ridiculous in the same post where you say he was very good this season.

Yes, I absolutely am going to weigh this season more heavily than past seasons when it comes to who I want in net for the Avs going forward. And I don't really care if this season didn't finish, because I don't expect Holtby to drastically change his play over the last 13 games of the season.

Now, to be perfectly clear, Holtby has been the much better goalie over his career, no question. From 2013-2017, he was one of the best in the NHL. Grubauer and Francouz probably won't ever win the Vezina. But, for next season, they are more than good enough, and probably a better option than soon to be 31 year old Holtby.

Edmonton can’t afford him, they aren’t paying Koskinen 4.5 the next 2 years to back up Holtby. Colorado has much cheaper/better options in both Grubauer and Francouz. So I don’t see the logic there.

To me Buffalo makes sense, though I don’t know how much money they want to throw at him with a Dahlin contract on the horizon.
Cheaper, yes, better, debatable

Because he isn't going to get the kind of money he wants long term after the year he just had.

Yes,he is, because his overall body of work makes him elite, and he's won a championship.

Unless he chooses to leave money on the table to be the final piece he will get his money.

Goalies that A LOT less are making A LOT more

He's been a below average goaltender for 3 years running. There's absolutely nothing elite about Braden Holtby right now.

I doubt he stays in Washington but there aren't a ton of teams that need goalies, I think he could be the final peice for Colorado i think Edmonton kind of needs him too

Bad time for Holtby to be UFA... Not trending that well and a flat gap growth. I suspect he takes a 1 or 2 year deal IMO. Doubt any NHL GM will offer him 5 years with a high AAV. Too risky

Sabres might be interested is the deal is 1 or 2 years at something around $5M AAV.
These two conditions added with Grubauer AND Francousz stinking it up in the playoffs I could see happening.
