Where do you think McDavid will fall on the all-time leaderboard for consecutive 100-point seasons?

The only way he doesn’t end up in the top 2 is because of injuries, and even then, he’d have to miss at LEAST like 15-20 games to not have a shot at cracking 100. Heck, at his current pace, he’d only have to play 59 games to hit 100 points.

So basically, this comes down to do you think he misses like a third of the season one year. With the way the NHL refuses to call the rulebook fairly, it wouldn’t surprise me if something happened, but I’m sure hoping it doesn’t.

At least 15-20 games seems like a big stretch.

To hit 100 points in 60-65 games he'd have to play at a 126-136 point pace approx. He "could" play at that pace at times - but to expect that to be the norm for him is a stretch.

Missing 15-20 games would probably mean scoring below 100 points - even for McDavid

My favourite Gretzky fact is that if he had never scored a single goal he would still be the all time points leader with just his assists only.

This is even better when you then realize that he also scored more goals than anybody else.

It's hard to make it healthy through the seasons. Especially at the speed McDavid plays at. I'll guess 5 but I think he'll have a season upcoming with enough games missed to come short of 100.

3 is already amazing these days so if he gets to 4 + its nice but then again you never know with injuries

Ovy had 3 in a row while staying healthy
Crosby had 2 in a row (would've had 9 in a row between 2005-2006 - 2013-2014 for sure but injuries are part of the game)

Freak injuries happen, but certain players are able to avoid those at all costs and have that durability to the point where it's absolutely shocking if they get injured. Look at Ovechkin for example. The most he's missed in a season was 10 games (still put up 100+ points), and outside of that he hasn't missed more than 4. And now that I'm looking at it, 4 of those 10 games he missed in the season he played 72 games were games that he was suspended for.

how is it a stretch? As I said, he’s literally on pace to be able to do it while potentially missing 23 games. I didn’t say he was a lock to do it if he misses 20 games. I said he’d have to miss more than 15-20 to not have a shot at doing it.

I guess it's in the wording. You seemed to be saying, he can miss 15-20 games any year and he'd still hit 100 points. If instead you're saying - he could miss 15-20 games and have a chance at 100 points - sure I agree with that.

The point is - if McDavid played between 60-65 games for the next 5 years - my guess is he might hit 100 points once or twice, but he certainly wouldn't hit it every time.

It's not put of the realm of possibility that we could be watching a player hit 10 + 100 point seasons. The guy is well on his way to his 4th 100 point season already. Age 22. 6 for the rest of his career which can lost well over 12 or 13 seasons ...

He did technically already do 3 and now comes the 4th right? If he stays healthy, it should be atleast 8, maybe even 10

McDavid consistency is what is so remarkable. Only 3 times in his entire NHL career that he has been held pointless for 3 or more games. This is his 5th season.

you mean Gretzky still somehow hit 13 consecutive 100 point seasons despite playing with Semenko as the other winger ?

dam all hail 99.

I'm literally just picturing 5 guys on the other team parting the sea every time Gretzky skates up the ice to avoid getting bopped... lol

I’d go with 7-10.

He’s gonna be Mr. Consistent when it comes to production.

Jagr would have had more if not for the lockouts and strikes and the fact he played in the toughest time to score goals.

It's somehow surprising that he has only two consecutive seasons with 100+ points. He is probably the most unlucky player in this regard:

1993-94Pittsburgh PenguinsNHL80326799
1994-95Schalker SharksGer.1111011

1998-99Pittsburgh PenguinsNHL814483127
1999-00Pittsburgh PenguinsNHL63425496
2000-01Pittsburgh PenguinsNHL815269121
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
92/93 + 93/94: Doable with some minimum extra luck (at least in 93/94)
94/95: Lockout - 70 pts in 48 games (so that should be 100+ in 82 games)
96/97 + 99/00: in both cases he played only 63 games and scored almost 100 anyway

That could be 8-9 consecutive 100+ seasons (And it would be 9 consecutive 90+ seasons if not for the lockout).

I'd be curious how many of those players had their streak of consecutive years snapped due to injury vs due to a decline in play.

McDavid will be putting up 100 points a season without fail for the forseeable future pending an injury. Unfortunately, injuries are a very real possibility for any player. It's impossible to know.

The only 3 years Lemieux missed before his 1st retirement he played 22, 26, and sat out the 93-94 lockout season.

Thanks for the almost 2 minute video that featured a bump on Gretzky in front of the net, being ridden into the boards by his buddy Messier, and the hit that ended Bill McCreary's career. Thank you for proving my point.

Careful . One time Gretzky saw Mike Babcock in a hallway.

dam all hail 99.

But McDavid already put up 2 100pt seasons with Lucic as a winger.
