Where do the Leafs go if they blow it yet again?

If they let Marner & Tavares walk, they could actually retool in UFA. Theese players could actually make the team better:

Granlund 3x 5M
Bennett 3x 6,5M
Marchand 2x 5M

Makes the team harder to play against and theese guys have shown they actually can produce in the playoffs and play 200ft. It also leaves money for Knies and some upgrades for other positions. I feel it would be better than throwing 13M at Marner and 9-9,5M on Tavares?

I mean, losing to a team in the 2nd round that many predicted to repeat isn’t really blowing it. Florida is a better team. It sucks but it happens.

They absolutely have to finally look at whats wrong with their core. On home ice with last change your best player have to be able to get favorable matchups and produce and consistently in big games the Leafs core just doesn't

Is it only rumour or fact that Treliving asked Marner to waive his no trade clause before this 2025 TDL? Highly doubtful Marner stays.

If Bennett took that deal. I'm preeeeeeeeeeetty sure he would signed with Panthers already. He's looking for 7x7 or more

Actually I could see Matthews waiving, why would he want to stay in a place where he is hated? What does he personally gain from that?

Money

MLSE has proven time and again they'll bend over backwards for him. Likewise, Matthews continues to show he seemingly doesn't give a shit beyond padding his regular season stats and dressing fancy.

Took 7 pages to get to the right answer. The leafs have run into a superior opponent who raised their level of play. Still a lot of hockey left, but this is less about a leafs “collapse” and more about the defending cup champs reminding the league that they still have gas left in the tank.

This happens every year and people expect them to blow it up and they never do.

They will make some changes, maybe even let Marner walk, but they won’t address the actual issues.

Next October we’ll be reading posts on the main board about them being fixed and by May we’ll be here again.

Hasn’t there been talk about them blowing it up ever since they lost to the Habs?
But so far they’ve changed coaches a few times, shuffled the bottom six and changed up the D.
Shanahan and ownership seem content with regular season success and one or two rounds of playoff revenue.
I’ll believe that they’re going to blow it up when I see it.

As a Habs fan. The changes on D were actually needed. Their Dcore is much improved and the moves were solid.

The lack of moves in their top 6 is crazy though.

I re-sign Tavares to 7M or less to be the #2C and build the forward group around Nylander and Knies as the star wingers.

Trade Matthews for a few younger pieces. For example to LA kings for Clarke and Byfield. I let Marner walk in UFA to whatever sucker wants him.

Then you have 20 million of cap space to add to the team over the next few seasons. Whether that is Bennett, McDavid, whoever the hell you can sucker into signing here they are able to retool the roster.

Only thing that CANNOT happen is the core 4 cannot return together

The Panthers would pay both of those guys that to stay, they'll move Erod if they have to in order to do it. And keep Ekblad.
