Where did Yzerman go wrong with the rebuild?

Exactly. and from a business perspective the team has no identity or face to put on the marketing materials.

I truly think part of the Abdelkader contract was just to have a name people knew to carry the Wings through years where there was going to be a lot of turnover.

we would also have no leader in that locker room. By all appearances Larkin does everything the right way, he's the kind of guy you want around a bunch of young players learning what they have to do to make it in the NHL.

I think Zegras can be had with pennies on the dollar. Not that he is a 'needle mover' but we need more young dynamic players in this lineup.
Yeah I think Zegras by himself doesn't move the needle, but if the trade is good value wise, if he can find chemistry with someone, it could potentially be a great fit. If he found that with Kasper or Danielson when they come up and another two-way player on such line.

Also why I think they should have been in on Fabbro, idk if they were. Him alone doesn't move the needle much, but if he would have landed in Detroit, finding a solid d-partner for him could make it overall good if the chemistry would be there.

Think zegras is the exact type of player we should target. Top 10 pick, still young & hasn't seen a bunch of teams like perlini (who didnt see that disaster coming?)

Had 60-65 back to back seasons to start his career. Dont know what happened there but the whole teams struggling there. Definetly think he can be a 70-80 pt guy

Zegras larkin raymond

Think that could be a hell of a line next year... sadly I dont think yzerman would entertain it anyways

Yeah I wanted Fabbro as well.
Keep hearing david jiricek and columbus not going well. Doubt it happens with seider pellika here but that could solidify the right side for 10+yrs

Seider
Pellika
Jiricek

I know a veteran right dman likely fills that spot but coulda been nice haha

There is one thing that still pisses me off about Larkin and he seems to be doing more again the past 2 seasons. The looking for calls and "diving" a lot of times and on a lot of ticky tack garbage. It is the one thing that has always bothered me about him and wish he would knock off. Trying to make the refs look bad just gets you fewer calls in the future, and isn't respectable. He seems like a great leader in every other way except for this issue.

SY needs to do something both upfront and in the backend...

If it's not actively looking to improve then send guys back down and start selling off...the middle ground is not the right plan

It's time to start selling off.

Kane
Fischer
Berggren
Lyon

Maybe Veleno/Rasmussen/Gustafsson. Idk if Petry/Chaiort/Holl/Motte hold any trade value at all.

So many bad contracts I don’t even know where to start
Yzerman has done a terrible job since 2019 let's just call a spade a spade. I loved him as a player. Probably my second favorite wing all time after Fedorov but who cares about all that shit. This team has zero direction. Is old. Has horrible contracts.
Zero elite young superstar dynamic offensive players. Yeah you could say Raymond but I don't ever see him as a perennial 90-100pt season kind of guy. Its just a complete shit show. And the owner sucks too. Yzerman has zero pressure of losing his job. Country club vibes.

Selling off in November. OK dude....
Even if you wanted to, I don't think all could be sold off. I'm just saying in-general, yeah it's sell time anyone of those players at any moment. Unless you've got some sort of confidence this is a playoff capable team?

I like some of these guys even but if you're going to suck this year, and they're on one-year deals, you have to squeeze some value out.
