What are we seriously going to do about Ehlers? You can't trade him for picks if we are in contention, which it looks like we will be, and losing him for nothing would be a super tough pill to swallow. Could we sign him mid-season?
I think you just have to let this season play itself out. For Ehlers, Pionk, Namestnikov, Appleton, Iafallo. Ehlers is obviously one of if not the most popular player here judging by crowd reactions and social media, so he's the highest profile. And he's having a career year, in a contract year, who would have thought?

For all the regular success I wonder how much playoffs factor into Chevy's future decisions. Who can elevate in the playoffs?

The Ehlers one may come down to June 30th if it does get done at all. And maybe it makes sense for both sides to see how playoffs go before making a long term commitment.

Anyone been seeing these Marcus Pettersson (penguins) to Jets rumours?

They started this morning on social media

No rumoured exchange pieces only that he’s been linked to the Jets
Sometimes I think all it takes is for a couple of Podcasters to be having a discussion and throw out some names (like we do here) that could make sense, and all of a sudden other sites are like, "Rumors are......"

Not saying that's whats happening here, just that it seems like it takes very little to get things going sometimes.

That being said, he's an interesting add IMO. Especially if the team doesn't think that the 3rd pair LHD is solid enough for a run.

I like Pettersson as a player, but I wonder if he’s maybe too soft of a player. Maybe his effectiveness is skewed by playing for an awful Penguins team.

Provorov would bring more of a physical game while still being an improvement at puck moving at 3 LD. Likely to be a bidding war on him though.

I’ve seen talk of Oleksiak, but he’s got an extra year on his contract that Jets likely don’t want. Not sure what kind of trade protection he has either.

Fleury and Stanley have both been decent, but ideally they are slotted in only if someone is banged up in the playoffs.

It would have to be another LHD going back, and why would they do that before looking at Ville?

Acquiring him pretty much shuts the door on Stan and/or Ville for the season (I'm assuming one of them would be going the other way)

Can't see that myself. We already have Stan + Fleury + Heinola for 3LD.
Just that Stanley really isn’t that good. Adequate as a #7, sure. Still a weak link.

Heinola is unproven, coming off a major injury and setback and will probably get steamrolled by a heavy forecheck come playoff time.

Fleury has looked decent, but can be upgraded.

Might have a pretty good player if you could morph the best attributes of all 3 into one player.

Petterson also has a $4 million cap hit. I can't see Chevy even entertaining using the remainder of his cap space this early in the year for a player that at the moment isn't a big need. He'll want to wait until as close to the deadline as he can before adding as he'll accrue more space.

Yeah I don't see that happening now. I could see a RHD upgrade sooner but on the left side you'd think they want to give all three of those guys some run. I doubt Villie goes in against FLA but I can see him getting in against PIT or NSH.

Jets need to improve their foward pool, none of the guys on the Moose are scorers and we can only hope someone jumps out!

I think you are underselling all 3 at least a bit.
Stan is adequate as a #6.
Fleury is more mobile than Stan. IMO he is better defensively though even weaker offensively. So also adequate as a #6.
Heinola is a very good skater which should help against that heavy forecheck. He is unproven and injuries have been a problem.

As 6, 7, 8 I think they add up to pretty good. Of course they could be improved upon. Heinola may yet turn out to be that improvement. 3LHD is certainly not high on the priority list of Jets needs.
