We become contenders every time we made PO-ffs. Every PO team got a chance. I am tired of this "only elite team got a chance" thing. Boston, Pitts, SJ, Blues are elite teams. Where are they ? Boston beated by Montreal. We wipe floor with them last year, and would beat them again this year. In a 11-12 some predict 4-0 from Rags. We take best team in a east to game 7, with legit chance to beat them. So, PO ia all that matters. If we made PO, we can beat anybody.

Name a team that wasn't considered Elite that has won a cup in the last 10 years.

Considered by whom ? Show me formal list of elite and not elite teams.
But, Carolina, Tampa. Even LA i think not considered elite and have sort of miracle run.

Carolina finished 2nd in the East the year they won the cup and were only 1 point behind Ottawa for 1st.

Tampa finished 1st in the East the year they won the cup and Marty St. Louis won the Hart and the Art Ross Trophy.

Carolina finished their Stanley Cup winning season with 112 point, Tampa Bay had 106 and was second in the league when they won theirs. L.A is a decent example of an underdog though

When we have an elite goalie and 2 more game breakers -

Price, Lunqvist, Quick are the 3 best goalies in the league

But only LA and Chicago are the contenders - they have elite puck movers and elite game breakers

If RL becomes elite, we add a couple of game breaking wingers and we are the.

But to answer your questions, not anytime soon

So thats definition of Elite. Montreal and Rangers were 4-5 in a east. Deffinitely not Elite. What the **** they are doing in East final ?

SJ and St. Louis were beat by power houses.

Boston beat themselves.

Pittsburgh was completely injury riddled.

Only top spending Elite teams win the Stanley Cup. No one else.

It was different then. We had Alfredsson.

I am not saying those Stanley Cup winning Carolina and Tampa Bay teams were elite but they certainly were not miracle run teams either. They were good teams, they weren't bubble teams.

To me a contender is a team that you expect to go far into the playoffs.

The elite teams are in the west. Boston and Pittsburg are at the top in the east, but both have holes. Especially now that Chara is slowing down with the Bruins.

The east is wide open, it could just as easily be Columbus and Philly in the eastern conference final this season. Thats why I wish the Sens would hold onto Spezza and Hemsky, make an addition or two and compete. That would be a team right alongside teams like the Habs, Rangers and whoever else.

Chances are whoever comes out of the west is going to smoke whoever came out of the east anyway.

I get what you mean, but the only way this team will "spend smart" while spending enough to win a cup, is if we get a new owner. Or if melnyk decides to spend some of his millions of dollars to help the team he owns.

And when that "new owner" buys this team at market value, $380M, what do you think happens to ticket prices?:shakehead

If Spezza gets moved, it will set Ottawa back. If Spezza stays, Hemsky will probably too and we are contenders.
