I still say he’s elite despite the rough series. Wouldn’t be the only elite player to struggle this SCF, or vs the Panthers this playoffs for that matter
He’s elite offensively but I’m not sure he will ever be as elite overall as the top 5 or so guys. His defense has improved but he’s still really weak on the forecheck and makes way too many gaffes.

How does that compare when you look at zone starts?
Bouchard isn’t trusted in his own zone, where Ekholm gets Dzone starts with other D.

Bouchard is a good player, but I would stop short of calling him elite, and he really has not had a good finals, so far.

Oilers fans grossly overrated the guy because he was racking up pts like crazy. In fact, he reminds of a differeny style Matheson. Offensively good for about 60 pts (Bouchard will get more pts due to playing with McDavid) but very questionable decision making.

Personally, I hope he is considered elite right up to the point the ink dries on his new extension. Similar to Nurse.

He is getting paid for sure .He is better then Nurse and any agent will use his pts as leverage vs Nurse contract. Oilers are in a bad spot here come negotiation time .

Yes. They have 10M in cap space next season and need to sign 11 players. The year after that Bouchard and Drai need massive raises and the year after that McDavid and Ekholm need raises.
Oilers are in cap hell after this season. This is their one chance at a cup
The problem is that too many fans just look at points when evaluating a D. Bouchard is elite offensively but defensively despite improvement this year and being paired with Eckholm he’s still got a ways to go.
I’d like to see him play for another year before moving him too far up the ladder of top D. If he takes another big step defensively then we can start talking about elite.

well there is the solution to the Oilers defense issues. Split up Ekholm and Bouchard and play elite Bouchard with Nurse....
