  • HFBoards is well aware that today is election day in the US. We ask respectfully to focus on hockey and not politics.

When does Trotz pull the plug on Brunette?

I am still in the 10 to 20 game window.

There is still hope, for me to be correct!
Yeah I think we should be back on Fire Bruno watch. If we are still this bad by game 20 Trotz will have to do something or else throw in the towel on the year and you know he's not gonna do that after all these signings

I think I am beginning to understand why the Panthers passed on Bruno.

Heard a Brady Skjei interview earlier this week - He said something to the effect he is "till trying to figure our the systems". I only ever played pond hickey, but how complex are NHL systems for a defensemen?

Well, watching the way Josi and most of our defense play, it would seem defense is optional in our system so that would definitely take adjusting to.

I know Schenn said last season he had huge issues with it and certain footwork Brunette wanted that apparently is different than anything he'd ever done. If Brunette is that detailed his teams are always going to suck to start the season.

As much as I'm unhappy with Bruno, I *really* dont like the idea of firing and hiring mid-year. I want a new coach to have an off-season to get their system figured out. Would prefer to give a full year, see what happens, and go separate ways in the off-season.

But if this continues....it'll be sooner rather than later.

Have Brunette coach us into a top 3 pick then dump him in the offseason? I could see it.

They stopped executing Lavi's system...actually he just didn't really have much of a system. They consistently couldn't employ Hynes'. Outside of a quarter season stretch they haven't been able to play Bruno's. I'd rather not sandbag a whole season hoping the trend reverses over an offseason.

Get a new guy in, let him see what he has to work with (and maybe salvage some of these young guys Bruno has sidelined) and use the rest of this year to work on things for next season under actual game conditions.

Blues won a cup by firing a coach mid season. I have a lot of family members that are blue fans and they were talking about blowing the team up because they were that bad. Then they had a coaching change and it changed directions rather quick. While we have some holes on our team this system is clearly not working with the players we have. A new coach with a new system could possibly change the teams play drastically and maybe have a little more faith in our youth

I know you don't see it in this modern era, but you have a SC winning coach sitting up high every night. He's seen them through camp, practices, and games. You can't tell me Barry Trotz isn't watching what Brunette is doing with this team and seeing the issues. Brunette has made no adjustments other than to role players from line to line and bench his young players that aren't even the problem.

The only thing that is going to save this team at all is if Trotz either fires Brunette or he comes down out of the rafters and fixes it himself.

I really hate that Bruno just keeps falling back onto what worked for a stretch of last season. The forsberg/ror/nyquist and Jankowski/novak/Evangelista lines havent done anything 5v5 this season and we just keep going back to it. Sometimes things just stop working - JoFA, Herd lines for example. Stop living in the past and make the best out of what you got.

Also stop being overly reliant on the old guys. If we are gonna suck, atleast give Parssinen, Tomasino, Evangalista, novak, L'Heureux a good bit of ice time

I also hate the constant line scrambling. There's no consistency whatsoever (well, except the vets getting the most ice-time night in and night out) and I imagine it's hard for the players as well. The Pärssinen-Novak-Vange line looked good in that one game and how much longer were they together after that? Maybe a game?

I feel like Bruno isn't in control anymore. The players aren't playing their best but I feel like Bruno has lost the plot already.

.500 or under through the rest of the month should cost him his job, honestly. The record needs to be positive and they need to win games. I'd probably rather Trotz as the interim for the rest of the season if they don't gain ground by then

Parssinen/Novak/Evangelista line was split to move Parssinen up with Stamkos and Marchessault. Of course that lasted all of one game ( a win ) before Parssinen got sadled with 7 minutes in this one.

My biggest question for Brunette would be, what are you seeing on the ice that justifies playing Stamkos 20 minutes a night? No one in the rest of the league seems to be able to find whatever it is.

Brunette's tactics are the definition of crazy. Just keep doing the same thing, benching the same players, shifting lines/pairs, and getting the same negative results.

That's the infuriating part. Put the "problems" in the line up and roll the lines/pairs, don't f***ing change lines or pairs throughout the game, give all lines/pairs even TOI at even strength. Try something different, stable roster with adequate time for everyone to get into the flow of the game. That's literally the only thing he hasn't tried.

I really don't see him getting canned in season unless we go on the opposite streak of last year.

Yeah I don't get why he thinks keeping everyone guessing who they will be playing with and when their next shift will be is conducive to anything. I know the line blender is a meme for almost every coach but I've never seen someone who changes lines almost shift to shift.

The line blender talk was kind of ridiculous with Hynes, there were times that he left line together too long when they weren't working. Especially to start a season or after there was a big roster change because of injury or something.

Brunette didn't even wait a full period before he started changing things in the first game. That is what I'd call having no confidence in your own decisions.
