Czechs having some fun with Canada requesting an apology from the IIHF for the reffing.lol

I will say, and I think Canadian hockey is on the rise based on the last 5 drafts, that everything any member of Hockey Canada has said has sounded bad.

Love Canadian hockey on the ice
Not a fan of Hockey Canada as an organization

Sorry
Who asked for an apology?

Hopefully heads roll because of this, these past 2 results are inexcusable.

Ultimately Canada's development as a whole is still great (Benson, Bedard, Celebrini could've theoretically played at this tournament and obviously that would've been a massive boost that no other team can claim), but obviously way too much hubris has crept into Hockey Canada as a whole. You see this with the bad roster decisions, horrendous coaching and undisciplined players.

You can live with an off year where they get massively goalied or hit like 10 posts in the conference finals, but getting eliminated twice by Czech Republic and not medalling after their atrocious pre playoff tournament losing to Latvia, going tooth and nail with Germany, getting pumped by USA is just inexcusable.

Worst of all the people in charge are extremely delusional. All they had to say is "we made roster mistakes, we should've practiced, the coaching needed to be better and the players needed to be more disciplined." The excuse making is as bad as their tournament performance, just pathetic really.

Lets talk team Canada.

I didn't think we would make the same mistake like last year, and here we are, with the same stubborn group, going with "what they like best" for a best of 1, best on best tournament, not going with our best players available, ok fine, well given that, even on the ice, our best players were given the best ice times.

last year we had a similar issue with a prospect named Nat Danielson getting more ice time than he actually deserves. It was painful to watch him get ice time time after time, and he's just not the player that can generate offence.

this year the same thing happens again, giving more ice time then he deserves Easton Cowan, with dumb penalties and brutal giveaways. this guy lead our team in ice time among forwards, wtf man! Meanwhile we sit out, highly skilled players, and we by our final game, it felt like only Catton and Mckenna can generate good offensive pressure! WTF! how does (team Canada) came down to only 2 guys that can generate offence??? what happened to our tremendous depth and our ability to attack in wavies?

OH RIGHT! we hired a bunch of clowns to run team Canada! that's what happened! we sat out a top 3 pick, Andrew Crystall, doesn't make the team, we sat out WHLers because our coach wanted OHLERS, wtf is this! Canada had no business winning any medals the way we are doing things!

change things up! treat it as a best on best! We built our team like its going for best of 7 matchups wtf! hire a new coach bring in a new manager to run team Canada wjc next year!

13/32 players in the 1st round of the 2023 draft were Canadian. 19/32 in 2024. 2025 is a very heavy Canadian-laden draft much like 2024. Yet this team can't win? Forget the fact that Bedard, Fantilli, Celebrini and Benson were the 4 players in the NHL still young enough to play. We have had that every season. When you have that kind of talent and don't win, and in the case of this particular team lose horribly, it starts at the top. The selection committee. The coaches, the management, the old boys club. Canada still should be winning this basically every year and they don't because they can't get it out of their head that a kid that may have been cut from a U18 or U17 team might have actually developed better in the last couple of years and is better than his peers today. It becomes a buddy system.

Wow....seriously. This is all Cowans fault? Just another online twit that knows Jack. Do I think easton should have dished off a little more....sure... but his coaches thought otherwise. If he was not doing EXACTLY what they wanted his ass would have been stapled to the bench. Blame the coaches not the players. Also....it just an FN game.

Any evidence of Hockey Canada requesting an apology, or are we talking about the Sun article?

Most of the problems stem from roster selection, but coaching is also an issue.

Any talk of talent shortage or lack of development vs other nations is premature. Add Iginla/Lindstrom both injured, Celebrini NHL plus several key players passed over in selection process this situation is much different.

I would completely ignore several overly negative comments in these threads. These are mostly detached from reality.

The coaching never seemed to seriously address scoring issues especially on the powerplay. Cameron would throw out players known for "grinding" and they kept it to the perimeter. Bonk as the PPQB and then the PP slot presence was iffy. I don't mind him on the team but he was mis-used and that comes down to coaching and potentially management nudging the coach to make decisions. The no practicing between games hurt as well. You don't need high intensity drills here. Just something to get the players in a better frame of mind and working on their chemistry together.

After seeing the last few games I don't think this roster or the play on the ice was that bad relative to the competition and winners but management and coaching was a real let down. Management picked a roster not designed well for the tournament format, the coach seemed to make questionable decisions around lines, special teams and practicing. It's hard to know where the blame falls because we're not in these meetings and maybe Dave Cameron was told to do certain things. Something is wrong and it's not the players.

It is clear from the post-mortem interviews that they are fixated on the u17 and u18/Hlinka tournaments. Not only can players develop since that time, it's also possible (likely) that Canada won without actually having picked all of the best available players. The u17 and u18 tournaments should be informative but not binding.
