"Prokhorkin refuses to ever play in the AHL."
*Prokhorkin played in the AHL*

And just because he "doesn't want" to play in the AHL doesn't mean he will refuse to.

That is where there is misrepresentation of truth.

Now, if he decides to stay in the KHL or refuse to pay his dues in spite of what management says, then sure, he's done. But there's still time to figure out what's going on; unfortunately, he's already being branded as some malcontent.

+1 :handclap::handclap:

Kitsyn never recovered , the guy can't play at an AHL level.

Kitsyn is not a smart hockey player, his on ice IQ is questionable. That's his biggest drawback. He is doing pretty good offensively in the ECHL, but he is taking one dumb penalty after another. Wonder if he will make the AHL Ontario squad next season.

I don't know why people want him so badly on this team.

He has really really good offensive tools. Great hands. He can think the game well also. He has NHL size and a willingness to use it, or at least he did last season. This season he was way more of a floating perimeter player. The toolbox is there, mentally though that's the huge question mark.

and, FWIW, being a +18, although a potentially "meaningless" stat, indicates less of a "disaster" than you might think. I can't say I saw his play, and yes, his numbers went down, but it doesn't look like he turned into "defensive indifference"...

It was more or less him folding under pressure from defenses. He was not a surprise this year, everyone knew who he was, knew his game. Defenses cued on him and forced him more to the outside from what I understand. Got frustrated.

Hold on a minute. IIRC Porky was under contract with CSKA and wanted to come to NA, so he asked to be bought out and it was granted by the team. The problem was that the KHL said he didn't ask the league for permission so they forced CSKA to return his money and re-instate his current contract which has another year left. He had every intention to play here either it be the AHL or the Kings but preferences were with the big club.

Now, this year he was demoted but rumors has it was either it was political or a cost saving move on the big club side.

Edit: somebody find me a link. On a 30 min lunch break and can't research this.

Timeline:

  • Kings draft Prokhorkin in 2012 and sign him to a three-year entry-level contract.
  • The KHL argues he already has a contract with CSKA so the NHL voids the contract with the Kings.
  • With one year remaining on that contract with CSKA, Prokhorkin uses his own money to try and buyout the last year to terminate it so he can go to the NHL.
  • KHL claims he failed to follow the buyout procedures in their CBA by informing the league and filing the paperwork by the necessary deadline so they deny his request.
  • Last off-season with that KHL contract now expired, he tries to negotiate a deal with the Kings. After hearing what the team is offering he chooses instead to sign a more lucrative one-year extension with CSKA for $2,000,000.
  • Now even that contract is done and that's where we're at this summer with potential negotiations set to begin if he wants to play here in North America.

Nice recap, thank you.

Say what you want, but IMO Prokorkhin is still our best prospect.
Lots of things I read in this thread are pure speculations from people who probably have never seen him play. Dude is built for the NA game, he has size, talent and can skate. It's up to him.

I'm wondering why some wannabegm already wants to get rid of him.
At least wait for training camp.

And btw, comparing him to Kytsin is total BS.
He's just on another level.

I have seen him play live a few times. Jason Lewis may have as well. I know Tonell had, before he stopped posting.

He is a perimeter floating Euro skater to the tee. Everything you don't want in the NA game. My red flag is, Porky plays the Big Ice game in spades, and he sucked at it this season. Now all of a sudden this guy is going to flip a switch, and play NA style ?

Uhh no.

The Kings best prospect ? not even close.

With all that said though, Porky still has a chance to sign with the Kings. He will most likely be asked to play in the AHL. Lets see if Porky has had a change of heart.

Also nobody wants to get rid of Porky, the Kings don't even have him under any contract. Someone asked what went wrong with his season. People pointed out the problems with his game/season.

That's what is super frustrating with him. He will play that NA style. He can play it. He just chooses not to most the time. Like this season. He did less work on the walls and in the crease unlike last season. It was like as soon as he becomes a known commodity and defenses start beating on him his game shifts to the perimeter. There is an unwillingness there which is troubling.

Makes me wonder if he'll take over Stoll's spot on the roster...

Doubtful. Granted, I've seen only a few games of Kitsyn here and there, but our roster in Manchester is pretty stacked. And Kitsyn hasnt done enough (again with my limited insight) to warrant the promotion.

Makes me wonder if he'll take over Stoll's spot on the roster...

Only if he's willing to take whatever lines we give him.

Any ideas how long his new contract is with Ufa Salavat Yulayev?

Noticed he's playing in the KHL already.

Prokhorkin signed a 1 year deal with Salavat. And he is playing really good so far.

Kempe, Weal, Mersch......to name a few say hi!

guys that are working within and with the team's dev program to reach the NHL. they have put their personal pride aside to reach the NHL, Porky seems more inclined to line his pockets with KHL $$ and celebrity.

Porky hasn't and isn't working with LA until he skates in NA for a season - he doesn't exist in my eyes. at this point he is merely a name on a white board.

his insistence at forcing a roster spot in LA and not the AHL is bs and it wouldn't surprise me if it knocks him down Dean's board for not being a team player. forcing Dean's hand seems to work as well as sneaking Molly into a pool party, or Oxy into Canada.

the little i've seen of video clips and such of him are exactly what jason and damacles say he is. perimeter player

In answer to the question on his status for next year and the NHL.

He answered: 100% bound for the NHL in the neat future.

We've heard that before, but thank you for sharing.

Amen.

I don't hate the guy for staying home and making money, but if he's not going to be a Kings team player by coming over to NA, i'm sure DL will just treat him like an asset, as he should.
