It's as if one person used the word hyperbole properly, then everyone else had to look up what it meant and realized how apt it was. Those people then went on to use it in every single post ever. Every single one.

Also, generational. Please just stop saying this. It means nothing. The definition is so contradictory to what you are trying to convey

Probably anything about salt. Worse when referenced as tears being tasted.

Ingesting others’ bodily fluids. Salty bodily fluids.

Wtf.

every team has a generational player or 2 at least around here

The worst one though was referring to players as "studs"

" _______ ever"

as in 'greatest ever', 'best ever'

said without a minute's reflection on actual hockey history

Not so much words or a saying but:

When people use an excessive amount of arrows or spaces as an arbitrary means of comparing players.

Example: McDavid>>>>>>>>>>Crosby

Or when ranking players

McDavid

Matthews

Eichel

Just seems like a lazy way of trying to prove a point and makes me think of your post as nonsense, yet I see it so often.

Not sure if this is the place for it but I cringe when I read this:

“All the research that we do on a regular basis tells us overwhelmingly our fans like the shootout,”
- Gary Bettman

No. We. Don't.

in what sense? I don't mind looking at CORSI but holy Christ some take it country miles too far. they think it tells you everything about a player.

Or a team.

"The underlying stats predicted their performance was not sustainable" .... said after the season is over.

My biggest beef with how some... some... use them is that they are presented without any context. And ironically, most times without any qualification as to whether the stats themselves meet any kind of test statistical significance (p values,r2, t tests, etc).

The discussion generally goes:

A: This team is at a 49.8 and this team is at 48.8. Therefore not as good.

B: Do you know if the difference in values is statasitically significant in any way?

A~ Um, you don't understand stats

It's usually used with hockey IQ or some other intangible. I don't know about you but I've never seen a hockey IQ chart.

So yes I agree there are charts. It's just when there aren't charts that I'm bothered by it.
Y can't I axis these intangible charts!

IMHO - is IMO a lie, and that's why you need that H?

Should of/would of - go back to school

their (or they're) used incorrectly - same as above

AINEC - if I had a dollar for each of these used...

Generational - ...yeah

And my all time favorite: hockey IQ. Not hockey sense, smart, vision or general quick thinking. But hockey IQ is for some reason it's own specific thing.
