3M

3.5-4M is his fair value as a peak middle 6 forward right now. But to improve the team, you need to be able to downgrade him to a bottom 6 role. Anymore than 3M, his value is gonna depreciate.

Personally i'd rather just get a 2C at 5.5-6M price range that can alternate with Dach and make sure we have the option to support Demidov

Evans on the wing at 33 really does not scare me. 3.5-4 x 4 would be fine to have a solid veteran that can work with Beck/Kapanen/Hage when they join the team. He's a very very smart guy, i think confidence was a bit low for a time but he probably realized he's better than what he tough.

Now, i believe he will consider how good he has it with the CH and how miserable it can be to spend 4 years in Winnipeg or Utah. How much more money can make one leave a happy family? Anybody here ever kept a job he loved instead of going to the competitor which is a known a**hole?

Why do we want to trade away the players we groomed and are now ready to be on top in their role? How about being an elite 4th C with many opportunities on the 3rd line due to the young team trending up and about to shine on the big stage? He may even end up signing for 1.5 x 2 at 34 as a 13th. Who knows...

Whatever we do get, 2-3 years later the same posters scoffing at paying what it will cost to extend him will be complaining that we traded him and claim it was obvious we should've kept him lol

SO TRUE....

I think we should trade him. I was 95% sure we were trading Lekhonen and still think it was the right thing to do.

Also the guys saying we should keep him and pay him 4MIL will be calling him untradeable in about 6months if we sign him...

All depends on how Jan/Feb go. If we are still playing the above .500 hockey we've been playing the past 6 weeks, I think there's zero chance we trade him as we'll be firmly in the wild card mix.

If we falter or suffer some injuries that push us firmly back into the bottom 5, then it's at least a possibility... One I hope we pursue aggressively.

Only the flip floppers lol

I hope we can extend him for under 4M$. But, wherever he ends up, my bet is that he'll continue to be a very effective player for the next 3-4 years at least, and not unlike Lekhonen, prove to be very much worth his breakout contract value.

Dvorak is having a good season considering he's getting both Anderson and Gallagher going.
Sorry to disagree, but I find that Gallagher and Anderson are having good seasons ‘despite ‘ having to play with Dvorak.
Gallagher has improved by having his ice time reduced and having longer to recuperate between shifts and Anderson has improved by accepting his role as a great forechecker. Dvorak does win his fair share of faceoffs, but he’s not a factor in his wingers success.
I expected Dvorak to pull a contract year flash show; he has not .

I'd rather go with shorter term for complementary players. It's term that makes players untradable.

Anybody can deal with terms when the salary is lower....but when salary is higher....then you have to give up a 2nd round pick to get rid of a guy like Patrik Laine.

If Gallagher was earning around 3-4M, he would be easily tradeable, even with his terms

The agent should be fired if he can’t get 4M .. short or long term.

Good chance he’ll crack 50 points and … he’s leading NHL F’s in SHTOI. The only one with over 3:00/G.

BTW, there’s a group of ~ 8-10 PK’ers in the 2:30-3:00/G range. Dvo and Armia are both in that group which highlights how much Evans is needed if they leave.

He’ll get paid.

Too much discussion here about money. The real question is - is he their #3 for the next few years or do they want to give that job to youth? What’s on their lineup white board? Of the 100’s of lineup proposals I’ve read here for ‘26 or ‘27, not many had Evans as the 3c.

3M?? What year is it? lol

I remember Paul Gaustad getting over 3m to be a 4C about a dozen years ago.

Those days are over.

Interesting. I was thinking 3 mil as well but you may be right. The cap keeps moving up so maybe he’s worth more.

I really don’t like the idea of 4 mil for this guy though. He’s on a heater now but we can’t expect him to play like this regularly.

Here’s my predictions.

They will resign Jake Evans $4.5 mil x 4 years (using Jeff Petry and Jake Allen contract coming off the books $4.2 mil).

They will trade Christian Dvorak and Joel Armia freeing up $8 mil. Next year Juraj Slafkovsky will make $7.6 mil so that covers that. However they still need 2 players to replace Dvorak and Armia for next season. Joshua Roy and Oliver Kapanen or Owen Beck for next season??

David Savard looks like he’s going to be traded. Hence replacing Alex Carrier $3.75 mil. Money in money out.
Kaiden Guhle will make $5.5 mil starting next season. Emil Heineman and Jayden Struble will be RFAs so will resign bridge deal.

So next year’s roster there will be 3 open spots. I’m thinking Ivan Demidov/Joshua Roy/and a defenseman.
It was supposed to be David Reinbacher. But his injury set him back a year of development. Most likely we will see Logan Mailloux full time.

Slafkovsky Suzuki Caufield
Demidov Dach Laine
Gallagher Newhook Anderson
Roy Evans Heineman

Hutson Matheson
Guhle Carrier
Xhekaj Struble
Mailloux

to have a 4,5 millions centerman on the fourth line is just a waste of cash. Every contender, their 4th line are paid around 1 millions per year cause their top 6 is expensive. If Evans want 4,5/ year. It's going to be maximum 2 years. I rather pay him 3,5 for 4 years

Evans is a complimentary player. I rather to do like the leafs. Find that kind of player on ufa market and pay them for one year. Like they did with bertuzzi, domi etc. The moment pierre engvall wanted the big money. They just let him go.. and I can understand why. You don't commit long term on that kind of player having their career year.

I think Copp is a good comparable to Evans this year. Was trades and signed a massive deal in the summer after having a breakout year as a utility player. Compher is another one.

I can't see Roy being part of the plan moving forward. Our top 6 will be full on the wings and he doesn't have the makeup to be in the bottom 6. I'd try to add him as a sweetener to a trade.

I’ve seen Newhook mentioned multiple times as Montreal’s answer as a centre in the bottom 6.

I think Montreal needs a bottom 6 center who is:

-a veteran at the position,
-good defensively,
-can play the PK,
-chip in offensively, and;
-is decent at face-offs.

How many of those points does Newhook check? In my opinion maybe 1 or 2.

Thats why I think it’s wise for Montreal to sign Evans (of course dependant on Evan’s contract terms (I’d offer 4X4)), or find another veteran centre either through a trade or through free agency. Although I don’t see a lot of options in free agency next off-season and Montreal would have to overpay on July 1st anyway, as most teams do.

This is how they should look at it.

Don’t overpay for a guy who they think is a 4th liner.

They can make a trade or two to fill the void if they move on. Can be done in more than one transaction.

I kind of disagree as Roy has the IQ to adjust his game and could fill in the top 6 when needed.

If he wants 5mm we should trade him for a first, which sure, would be a big let down for a very tight group. But….we can then use that first, and the saved 5mm, to get a similar player.

Next level asset management.
