Evans always had a great all around game but no production so for many like me that made him easily replaceable and even taking the spot of some specialist vet or prospect.

I feel his worth above a vanilla 4th liner resides in how long he can stay healthy and fast at this point, it’s awesome to see him produce.

hf looks like around 4x4 so far and his consistency producing has me really impressed. Does not look like a spurt.

I don't see his agent asking for anything less than 5 years his performance this season has him earning 4m minimum.
Heck we've seen higher contracts handed out for less.
Good Luck trying to keep everybody happy with this one Kent.

Heavy bonus structured contract putting hard cash on the table in the first 24 months + 1day is a significant leverage tool Hughes has at his disposal vs many other teams

Say $3.5M x 4-years: if $12M (out of $14M) is paid out in first 24months + 1-day, that takes Evans to age 32 for his retirement contract

Evans has never scored above 30 points in a given season. Even if he scores 50 this year it would be very surprising for him to get 5+m. As a matter of fact Monahan just got 5.5m after a 59 point season and a season on pace for 51. If you ignore the injury years in CGY he has been consistently above 50 points, which is a lot more than Evans. Hence don t see a GM offering terms and dollars like they would for a goal scorer but you never know…

They should be trying to sign Evans now. To get an idea of what it will take. If he sounds like he wants to see what is out there next summer. Probably trade him before deadline. He will bring a good asset doubt I would let him walk for nil

We have a huge upper hand as we can discuss all this with Jake and his Agent before anything happens.
Jake we'll try to move you to a contender to strengthen our asset pool but we definitely want you back.
It's hard for me to see him forgoing his chance at UFA for some reason.

IMO trading Evans would result in a similar effect of trading Kovacevic and Allen. We'd be putting too much pressure on Beck/Hage to figure it out asap and if they don't, it'll hurt the team and Hughes will need to find another veteran just to replace Evans.

Unless we get an insane offer or he wants way too much, I'd try to sign him to a long-term deal with lower AAV.

Re-signing Evans will be a bit like Carrier. Both players can potentially still be with us in a bottom pairing role when we're cup contenders and if not, they'll be really good stop gaps until our youngins can replace them.

4.5 M
6 years

He was part of the sc finals team and bled for this team.

Now that he's doing good, you have no choice but to reward him.

3.75-4 over 4 years is my max. I'd go higher on the AAV to keep the term to 3 years though.
I like the thinking of this even if I don’t know if I agree. But yeah if he would take 3 years I’d be fine with whatever AAV. Mind you I’m not well versed enough on our cap situation to say.

If we stay in the mix all year there is no way in hell Kent will trade Evans at the deadline.
Just beat me to it. We’re very likely going to be in that race so unless something drastic happens or we come back down to earth sooner than later, he ends the season as a Hab 1000%

Jake Evans is a net positive player, a player that makes you win games more than lose. We might wish to save money for the big bucks player but in the long run if we loose him we will realize having average to below average bottom liner hurts the team a lot. Might want to go north of 3,5M$ (so around 3.7-3.8)

Monahan was likely giving a bit of a discount because he wanted to play with Johnny Hockey, also due to the injuries the term/total value of the contract probably was what mattered. It's likely that he wasn't looking at the 5.5m figure but the 27.5m. Also who knows how much the full NMC for the first 3 years and 15 team no trade list for the last 2 years impacted the cap value.

With Evans I'm not sure the 5m type offers would come with a NMC, and it's harder to say how much term will be valuable to him.

Our offer is probably going to be heavy on term, and front loaded, with a decent chance of getting NMC/NTC. But it's anyone's guess as to whether Jake will value that over caphit and potentially maximizing money.
