To a degree Evans will benefit from the Kovicavek Syndrom

Management thought either Mailman or Barron would take the NHL step...and didn't. So they traded Kovicavek for used jock straps and had to trade again to cover RHD.

Something similar is likely to happen with Kapenen and Beck. Are they ready? If Beck comes in and performs, Evans is gone. If not, then expect and extra half or a million. Maybe 3 million tops.

But...

If Evans thinks hes worth more then 3 million...goodbye. Particularly over 4 years. If some half wit GM thinks he's worth 4x4...good luck.

You can't throw money at bottom 6 particularly when you have an enormous stable of youngsters on the way. Cost control the top 6-8 and fill the bottom with cheap vets snd youngsters.

You have zero chance of signing him at 3 x 3....that is not remotely his market value.

Henrique is old, Domi is a defensive disaster and Paul plays in a state with zero income tax. These are brutal comparisons.

I submit that if you want Evans that it will take at least 4 x 4 and I believe it will end up surpassing that, especially if we trade him and he shows well in the playoffs.

I will pay the 4 x 4 all day as Suzuki, Slaf, Caufield and Guhle are all on potentially great deals if they continue to evolve and the cap goes up as much as it is believed to be going up. I would even consider 5 x 4 as well as Evans appears to be coming into his own and is a perfect student of MSL's teachings. He has a great head on his shoulders and will be a fantastic leader and example for the young crop that is coming up over the next two season.

This team desperately needs to fill out the bottom six with bigger, meaner bodies but will need cerebral leaders like Evans to form cohesive lines.

You want to give him the Marcus Foligno contract go ahead, see where that leads us. Letting these 25-30pts meh 3rd liner guys walk in free agency is how you build teams, not signing them to bloated contracts for career years. Same with Lehkonen who's now overachieving with Mac. If he was still here he'd be treated just like Armia is. A terrible contract that we can't wait to get rid of.

Savard.
Matheson.
Anderson.
Jee, Savard is a good contract for a solid veteran albeit slowing and which contract ends this year with the opportunity to get good return at TDL.

Matheson is an easily tradable contract well valued to the player contribution. Nothing wrong here. Pretty sure we get really good return here if we trade.

Anderson was not signed by HuGo... I feel he got 2 bad concussions and slowed down a lot from the Tatar erra but now feels healthy and this season is a heck of a 3rd line banger Buuuut..... he's overpayed. At 3.5M for 2 more years, nobody would complains.

Dvorak, again a Bergevin signing, as well as Gally are the contracts that needs gone, else a lot of cards are falling into place for good return at TDL for Armia, Dvorak, Savard while freeing spots for yound studs.

I wanna see what Tuch and Beck can do!

Why

why only looking this season to build his next contract?. I mean. Since 2019, he is around 30 points/ year. He is a bottom line centerman. He is going to be 29 years old next year. 3.5 x 3. I wouldnt give him more than 4 millions per year. Look what happen with Dvorak. We can't handle his contract and we are stuck with him. Jake evans isnt immune to a regression. If he wants more than 4, bye bye. I would prefer to sign a UfA cheeper
He is on pace to obliterate his past totals and if you are watching the games it is very evident that he has discovered something in himself. He is a high end 3rd line center and 4M plus is a reasonable salary for such a player.

I don't believe in paying players for their past when they are clearly in decline (Gallagher) nor do I believe in penalizing players for their past when they clearly have taken a big step forward. Evans has scored at every level and while he will not threaten to lead the team in scoring, he has gained the confidence to consistently access the skills that we have always seen glimpses of.

My only issue with Evans is his concussion history.

Trading Evans will create a tough hole to fill. Dvorak is also gone this year. We can't enter next season with Suzuki, Dach, and rookies up the middle.
Center is just not a deep position in the organization.

Evans has a price but I'd be trying to find a way to sign him. Anything in the 3-3.5M range is very doable, anything more than they i’d want the term shorter, but he's a valuable player who can still fit in where they're going.
