The US development program has been emphasizing speed and skill for a long, long time.
As player participation rates in the US have increased over that same time period, it was only a matter of time before they'd get to the point where they'd send teams where every guy on the roster was a very good player.

As an American, I don't think he's wrong. Put the eligible kids currently on NHL rosters and it's a very different result.

Looks like David Carle makes about $750K at Denver. About half of NHL coaches are over $2 million with the highest around $5 million. Carle is certainly in enough demand to command a big offer. Denver won't be able to match close to what NHL teams will be willing to pay.
You mean guys that were hurt? Ryan Murray didn't even play in the NHL in 2012-13, but yeah I'm sure he would have been able to stop the Canadians from getting dominated by the US.

Luchanko and Ritchie got in games before being sent back down prior to the ELC Slide expiring.
USA has 1 - Smith.
And those are the only four players that are eligible age-wise for the WJC that are in the NHL.
Look, in '13 and '21 each country had for the most part their countries best players available and US beat Canada and won Gold. In '13 most people felt Canada was better and would win but they didn't. '21 was the same, all you heard was how unbeatable the Canadians were, but US won again.
Even going back to '04 Canada though admittedly missing Burns, Bergeron and Staal were considered a huge favorite. US beat them while having players such as Backes, Callahan and Byfuglien not selected with decent enough resumes.
The US is at a level now that if Canada doesn't take seriously getting the best players and the best coach, winning gold will be a 50-50 proposition at best.It's to be expected. I mean, despite how shit the last two tourneys have been for Canada, they did win two golds back to back just prior to that, one with that buffoon Cameron behind the bench, no less. These things go in cycles, but I hope that we get a match between both nations at top strength in the near future. Love this rivalry.
Don’t have to be Canadian for it to be BS. You are attempting to discredit the U.S. it was a backhanded compliment. Leonard is dramatic, but he was the tournament MVP.

It is an absolutely beautiful program and doing great things. If they ever get a few more states to love hockey, everyone is in trouble. I'd recomment Wyoming and Montana to start. Nebraska and Iowa next. Then go south and hit Oklahoma!

Do they have more registered skaters than Canada? Even in MN, by far the biggest producer of NHLers, it’s still a niche sport. Genuinely curious

Hot take: I think team USA still would have won gold even if Canada had Bedard and Celebrini. They seemed to be rolling on all cylinders.

I think the US overtook them in 22-23. It's close though, both at 500k+.

It would’ve been close. US would get Smith, and reunite him with GP & RL to form what would’ve been the best line in the tournament. Canada lacks goalies and chemistry and discipline. It’s not like lost in the semis by a goal. They were awful and lost to Latvia and barely beat Germany.

Yea not sure what the breakdown is by gender. But I doubt it moves the needle too much. I imagine the amount of female registered players is a small fraction of the total.
He makes 750K? Wow... hell of a lot for a sport that doesn't make money.
