What's in those Gatorade bottles at the bench?

The green bottles that players grab during Blackhawks games have the Gatorade logo on the outside, but there's a good chance something else is inside.

The logo is there for a reason: Gatorade (through parent company PepsiCo) is the official sports drink of the National Hockey League, which means every bottle, towel and water jug on the bench must tout the brand.

But often what's actually in the Hawks' bottles is Coco5, a Chicago-based brand of coconut water.
...
Coco5 was born in 2009 out of head trainer Mike Gapski's search for a sports drink for the Hawks that did not have Gatorade's colored dyes and other ingredients he didn't want to give his players.
...
The Blackhawks declined to comment on players' usage of Coco5. A Gatorade spokesman said in a statement that “We're proud of our 50-year history rooted in science and stand behind the wide offering of products in our portfolio, which has and will continue to include color-free options of Gatorade Thirst Quencher and G2. However, athlete preferences and routines vary, so we continually work with our partners to meet those needs to best serve athletes.â€

But it does not prevent having something else inside those bottles. Hmmm.

Anything you can imagine...

as a long range runner, I'd have to agree with Coconut Water/Milk. Works awesome to hydrate replace the lost electrolytes

Yeah, it's very good. I don't do long range running that much, but I do sometimes exercise for long period of time (3-4 hours). Coconut Water works really well.

Do you run marathons or something even longer?

From what I've been told, it's extremely rare that players drink straight Gatorade or Powerade. Many like it watered down/mixed, some use just water and some prefer another liquid entirely. If you randomly checked 50 bottles, you'd probably get at least a dozen different beverages inside them...

Usually BioSteel or other during game mixers. Gatorade is just sugar mostly. Doesn't have any Amino in them.

BioSteel is top by hockey players. It's expensive. It's around 60 bucks for can of month supply
MusclePharm Amino Cocktail is my favourite. It really gives me the boost I need during games

BCAA's are huge now (branched chain amino acids). Thats what biosteel is and all these other brands, players drink it a lot and is probably in some of the bottles

That's cool, I use coconut water myself when I play. It's nature's gatorade, hydrates you really well and it's refreshing. Also great to drink after a night of drinking to make the morning after more bearable. ;)

I'm going to ask my best friend to ask Blake Comeau who he's cousins with, i'm actually curious as well.
