They were far more bluesey than GnR. And Weiland produces a sound that is clearly not Axl.I expected more from Velvet Revolver. I guess I expected a G'n'R sound and didn't exactly get it.

Tool is a super intriguing band to me and I really like Maynard's vocal prowess a lot but for some reason I can never find a spot in their music.
"Sober" is my favorite song of theirs and its probably one of their most "radio friendly" if that makes sense aka has a simpler music structure/isn't 42 minutes long lol
That's the way that I feel about Alice in Chains. Roster? GREAT, GREAT song. Man in a box? Never need to hear it again.
Also, Korn. Funnily enough, I did not like Korn that much when they first came out. But they have really grown on me as I got older. The "Live and Rare" album is fantastic. Blind, especially the opening, really jacks me up.

Funny, AIC was by-far my favorite "Seattle" band. More than Nirvana, and way more than Sound Garden and Pearl Jam. Arguably one of my favorite bands of all time, but also a band that lost some prime years because of addictions.
The Music Bank Box Set is a trip from Guns N Roses inspired takes, to more of their heavy, known work.
And Rooster bores me. Frankly, Your Decision and Voices are two of my favorite AiC tracks, and they’re with the new lineup:
Bleed the Freak, Down in a Hole, Would, Don't Follow, We Die Young, I can't remember, would rank very highly for me.
Would, Them Bones, Heaven Beside You, Head Creeps, Get Born Again, No Excuses, I Stay Away, Your Decision, Check My Brain, Stone and Voices for me.
Forgot Voices.
That's a later track that really got me.
For sure. FYI Sonic Youth takes up the majority of it (not everyone's cup of tea), and Thurston really does not stop talking. Thanks for sharing...never seen this
That's awesome. I only had access to a record player sporadically throughout my life, but my parents had quite a few cool ones from the 80's like London Calling, Entertainment!, The Specials, etc. I did buy Hanx! by the Stiffs which was a great live album.I've read that too--it's excellent. Punk came earlier than that for me. I started tuning in about 1978. I have a lot of original lp's by a bunch of bands--both British and American from the late 70's to the mid 80's--Minor Threat, Bad Religion, Dead Kennedy's, Black Flag, SLF, the Ruts, Crass, the Fall on and on and on. Should mention the Bad Brains too.
The Fall and Sonic Youth are the two bands I really kicked myself for not discovering until college.A lot of great post punk bands. I've mentioned the Fall a couple times but Gang of Four, Joy Division would be two others. I really liked the Replacements as well.

I want to get a player eventually just to binge on specific versions of LPs, first pressings, misprints, different producers, etc., like the German pressing of In Utero, stuff like that.

The Specials--love them too. I've always liked reggae or reggae influenced music. I graduated from high school in 1975--the Ramones are showing up about then along with Televison, Talking Heads, Suicide and Blondie and in Britain the Sex Pistols and Damned in 1976 and the Clash, Stranglers, Ruts right after that. The Ruts and Stranglers, Elvis Costello, SLF and a bunch of others come out of the Pub Rock scene and weren't really novices and drifted over into punk right after the Pistols kind of exploded like Nirvana would years later. Players in those bands had been gigging for some time and some had a lot of musical chops. Joe Strummer of the Clash had played for a pub rock band the 101'ers for several years. But anyway these people were all more than less around my age and it was new and very different so it wasn't hard for me to get into that.
But anyway Inflammable Material is the best SLF record for me. It's their first and their rawest. I also think the same about the Clash--their first is their best. Sonic Youth covered two or three of the Fall's songs. Live at the witchtrials is a really weird record but it's a another favorite of mine. Gang of Four's Entertainment is superb.
I really enjoy the Jar of Flies album, a lot less grungy and a lot of dynamics there.
Would? and Them Bones are also great songs.

I first heard them watching a Rodney Mullen video on YouTube. It was the 7" single version of "Gotta Gettaway" (still my favorite version). The Specials--love them too. Jar of Flies is a fantastic album, always have to listen to that and AIC Unplugged when the leaves are changing.

Have you seen the Good Vibrations movie that came out around 2012/2013, about Terri Hooley? He started the record label in Belfast around that time that recorded the Undertones.

I am giving you a ‘like’ just for mentioning Television. Such an amazing band. There’s a clip of them from Later with Jools Holland doing ‘1880 or So’ From their comeback album in 1992....just incredible. Richard Lloyd does these sharp little fills throughout, and Tom Verlaine does a long, languid guitar solo as the song climaxes. Meanwhile, Billy Ficca is just beating the holy hell out of his drums and Fred Smith holds everything together on bass. Just a fantastic live performance. And Marquee Moon is one of my top ten albums of all time. The title track puts Stairway to Heaven to shame as an epic track of building tension. On that album alone they should be in the Rock and Roll HOF.
Great song. The whole album is very enjoyable. Rotten Apple is a great one too.Nutshell.
