Please no. Hage should not be on the table, with the right development his upside is very high.
Trading Hage is the type of transaction that comes back to bite you in the ass big time. In any event, I don't think Desnoyers' offensive upside is as high as many here think. He tops out as a #2 center in the NHL. Hage, who is a much more dynamic skater than Desnoyers, could well force Suzuki into the #2 slot. Now wouldn't that be a kicker? It would be a lot cheaper to move up for Brady Martin.

Yeah Desnoyers should be a good 60-70 point two-way C but I'd rather have Kindel who COULD become that (or more) and Hage and another 1st

Hage should be about as high of a no trade as it gets unless it’s for someone you want him to become at age 25/26 which can’t think of any scenarios where that happens. Getting a centre with that type of speed and skill who would give everything to this city is incredibly rare. Of course he could not pan out but at the speed he’s been developing feels unlikely

Do we need Desnoyers to be an offensive powerhouse, when he'd be pined to play with Demidov?

I think a Desnoyers type center will free Demidov to take over the line offensively while maintaining a championship-style defense on the line.

Use 1 to move up and the other to move up if possible.

We can dangle multiple picks/prospects with each separately in order to get into 7-12 category!

I mostly agree, though I get the feeling Martin wouldn't be any cheaper at this rate.

Some of you guys are over analyzing it… it’s a what would you do scenario.

If we’re keeping the picks, and not moving up - I’d draft Carter Bear and Justin Carbonneau.

The only thing that allows us to get to Bear at this spot is his Achilles insert. He’s an elite talent with a high end motor. Bear looks to have recovered from his injury, and his interviews and play style scream character. Driven to win, plays with an edge, always moving, scores goals in droves. He may be one of the best picks of the first round if his trajectory keeps rising.

Carbonneau is the second best right wing prospect in the draft behind Martone and I don’t think he’s that far behind. He has great size, plays physical, and has elite offensive skills. Needs to work on his defensive game (as most young guys do), but overall I could see him as a guy who scores 30 a year, and doesn’t back down from the physical battles in a long playoff run.

If we keep both picks then we will draft 1 forward and 1D. I doubt we will take 2 forwards.

I can easily see them taking a W and a C. Cootes and Lakovic/Carbo/Bear.

Truth is this draft doesn't have many great D prospects so I don't think they'll reach out of a tier to take one. They can easily find some great projects like Kettle or Amico in the 3rd.

Trade 16th, 17th and Hage for Desnoyers let's go!!!

Guy will be a stone cold winner.
If that's what it takes to get Desnoyers. He's a center, he have the size, the skills, the IQ and he wants to win. But that's not enough, he comes from a weaker league as they say. Some will argue he could do better if he was paired with better teamates. It will be interresting to see how he will developp and if we will regret not getting him in the future. When Habs didn't pick Bossy and went for Napier, we hear that for a long long time. Or when we picked Wickenheiser and not Denis Savard, that hurts.

The question is : what kind of player Desnoyer will become?

I agree with that sentiment also because a forward takes less time to develop thus can help team faster if the F and D are equal for upside

Hensler and just about anyone will be a good day.
I'm still not a fan of drafting for need. If we draft well and have a stable of good prospects, they can be used in trades to fill needs when they blossom.

Trading prospects in the system is tough, but Vegas and Florida did it and built cup winners.

I'd trade the picks. Unpopular for sure on a prospects board but I think the team took a step this year and the young core is mostly set. I think we could get a great player with both picks in the mix, that's my two cents.

If not trade at least one of them. I think packaging one + a Mailloux or something could get you someone to play on the team right now.

Yes but trading to get the 2c is the most difficult sport. If we can draft earlyer and get that excellent 2c, it's worth a try. As long as we don't get undressed with what we give in return. Just to mention every nhl team wants to keep their 2c and about 12 teams wants badly a 2c to move on in their plan. And that early pick of a C can become the first C ahead of Suzuki, eventually.

You have just crystalized the essences of success in sport: good asset management. The acquisition of superior/marketable assets (players) whether through drafting, trade or free agency promotes internal competition and provides a readily available pool of assets that can be used in transactions to fill needed holes in your line-up. Draft wisely and the cascading positive effects will show up in the ultimate on-ice success of your franchise. Draft poorly, and no subsequent remedial actions will ever reverse those critical mistakes made at the draft table.

Rebuild is on going...draft solid young prospects.
Only other option for me would be to move up into the top 5 which would require both 16 and 17 to be traded for moving up.
Rebuild is over. It’s about time Montreal starts adding legit players instead of more projects. The farm is already stacked
