What would the NHL equivalent of the Luka Dončić trade be?

There's also the collusion angle. Ratings are down so the league wants a star in LA, and the two GMs are friends going back 20 years when one was an agent and the other worked for Nike
I can't wait for Bill Burr's take on LA getting another star in his prime AGAIN just as ratings started to slip AGAIN

Agreed, both soft offensive dynamo type players that aren't worth shit at defense.

He isn’t a “soft offensive dynamo type” as much as he is arguably the best offensive player in the NBA. He gets 30/10/10 every night.

He is a generational point guard. I know that term gets used too much here, but he is that. His soft ass just carried a team to the finals that probably shouldn’t even have been there in the first place. But they were, because of Luka.

He is basically Connor McDavid. I am sure you’d turn down his services because he’s a “soft offensive dynamo type”

If I can keep this to just the world of defensemen:

Quinn Hughes (if it was Vancouver in the SCF last year instead of Edmonton)

for

Alex Pietrangelo (if he played for Chicago)

Doncic hasn't won.

I'd say Leon Draisitl for Mark Stone.

A 25 year old Draisaitl for current Mark Stone and a 1st a few years down the line.

AD is very good, his issue is that he missed plenty of games, which is similar to Stone
These hit the nail on the head

An elite player in his prime, near the best in the league but not quite at top of the heap, some minor warts in his game but the offense is so potent that you over look it

Traded for

An aging player with a history of injury problems who plays an elite two-way game but lacks the fire power to be the focal point of a team's offense, bonus points for having won a title in recent memory

Jack Hughes for Victor Hedman, 29 1st and minor league guy they like.

I value 25 year old Davis slightly more than 25 year old Doncic personally but I'd be concerned they are looking at 1 or 2 more prime years left, he is not like Durant shooting over everyone until he's 36, 31-33 are the most common last prime ages for NBA all stars. Likewise Jersey would seem crazy for trading their young franchise forward for Hedman who has a lot of miles on him.

Maybe i don't understand basketball but why did Dallas trade Doncic? He's like the second best player in the league and only 25 yo.

It's a mystery overall but

- They probably thought he was leaving in 1.5 years and the pressure would get ramped up this summer

- Dallas is like an team with two great offensive forwards but weak defenseman, and made a subpar value trade to fill the defenseman "need" wanting to have a more balanced team. The deals weren't there for Kyrie due to unique reasons in his case so they dealt their best player instead.

- Luka may have disappointed them not taking his conditioning seriously after his best regular season and playoffs last year, and they lost faith.

Best offensive player? Has Jokic retired and we don't know?

I am surprised no one else has said it.... NBA is desperate to get LA to contender status again. I'll say it... RIGGED.
