What would be the one thing you change before G7?

  • We're expeting server maintenance on March 3rd starting at midnight, there may be downtime during the work.
I'd remove Thornton replacing him with (anyone), move Foligno to 1LW, stick Nylander or Spezza on 2C, keep that 3rd line intact, assuming Dermott has to play 2LD that means Sandin goes 3LD with Bogo.

I might go full-on blender at this point... get Joe out of the lineup, and get Spezza into a regular shift. It's become clear that Spezza will run through the brick wall to try win this series, and he's got the skill to do so. Thornton is consistently chasing it.

Hyman-Kerfoot-Nylander
Foligno-Matthews-Mikheyev
Galchenyuk-Spezza-Marner
Brooks-Engvall-Simmonds

Not much. Hutton for Dermott would likely be my go-to, if Muzz is out you just add Hutton for the PK.

Aside from that, put up or shut up for this core. Lose and you're seeing a buddy moved out this offseason, could be any either or both of Marner/Nylander

No Thornton on PP1.

Don't put Nylander anywhere near 34 and 16.

Start Spezza + Kerfoot + Nylander so we can 'start on time'.

Lower the early minutes for Marner and Matthews, they look dead in the 3rd and OT.

Other than blow this f***ers to the moon, thats all I got.

The problem with this team?? The GM. Plain and simple. He signed/added players to this roster that can not/would not hit. This team was lacking toughness before he got here. For anyone looking at this roster, it is so easy to see the problem. Of all the players added since Dubas came on board, only two can dish it out or take it. Foligno, and Simmons. Don't believe me Watch game 6 again. Worse, there is no one waiting in the wings that can give/take one either.

We dominated in the 3rd & OT and most of the series, Price is more stonewalling us
Here we go with this again. We’re making it easy for Price just like we did for Korpisalo. He’s out cutting the angle every shot and Montreal boxes out and nobody fights for position

Guys, it's already too late...the series is over.
They already have their tails between their legs. Bringing in Thornton, Simmonds, Bogosian, Spezza, Foligno cannot change the fact that your main core is not clutch. They can only do so much on the tail end of their careers.

I'm honestly considering taking a couple years off to think about my priorities. I spend too much time thinking about this team and watching their games...maybe there's something better to do out there than follow a cursed franchise.
I’ve already made that decision. I used to play on 2-3 teams and lift weights 4-5 times a week. Now I’m a hardcore Leafs fan who dedicates 5-10 hours a week on games, athletic articles etc. Not worth it. Once the pandemic is over I’m done with this team

-kerfoot with Nylander
-engvall away from Thornton and don’t bench him and then count on him in final minutes/ot
-stop playing matthews so much and utilize Nash in defensive zone to free up Matthews ice time
-stop switching up the lines especially stuff we haven’t tried all season
- why are you stacking the first line when the game is tied in OT
-anyone but Joe on the pp1. Simmonds is a specialist in that position...

Leave Marner out of the line up. Shock the team by rewarding the guys who have done well and punish one of the invisible players. Then again...there is a reason l am not in hockey management.

Hyman Matthews Marner
Robertson Kerfoot Nylander
Spezza Engvall Foligno
Soup Brooks Simmonds

Andersen
Campbell

Jumbo doesn’t get near the ice
Robertson comes in to provide jump and spark and another shot
Habs have figured out how to get to Campbell - shots through the armpits or get him swimming. Last two games his weaknesses have started to get exposed and Freddie has been good against Montreal (10-4, .920)

Also before anyone roasts me too hard:
Freddie in 2019/2020 playoffs: .936

they have basically had the same playoffs.

They showed up for about 16 minutes of a hockey game that lasted 75+ minutes.... which was their response to only showing up for the final 20 minutes the night before.

That early series domination means nothing now. Throw it out the window - they are regressing & hurting, while the other team is getting stronger & faster.

Marner off the top powerplay
If Muzzin is good to go, no Dermott
If you won't play Thornton in OT why play him at all?
No Engvall, bring in Adam Brooks

Don't use the opposing goalie as an excuse. The reason we are going to game 7 is because we aren't showing up till the 3rd period. Why would you wait till you are down 2or 3 goals to finally wake up and get your legs going?

This is playoff hockey. The other goalie is expected to stand on his head. Thats why there is less room for error and trying to win it in 20 minutes is a recipe for disaster. The Leafs have way more skill and speed than the Habs but they're not using it. If they match the Habs intensity every game for 60 minutes, this series is over in 5.

Hutton is out indefinitely

I would change their heart, preparation and compete level but I see no evidence that that is possible
