Sorry to bump up the thread, but with the last 5 years of elite production.
Kucherov lowkey should've done the transition or atleast entertained the thought of switching to C back in his very early years. Kuznetsov did it and that was VERY exciting/interesting to me, if Kuzy can do it, then why can't Kuch?. I know there's a 99% chance that he was raised as a winger all throughout his junior years, but I seriously don't know why he never entertained it. He'd no doubt get the right amount of respect and love that he greatfully deserves right now if he was a C
Being a high quality center in a league like the NHL is the toughest job in the league and russian hockey is obviously different with the teachings of training, plays, ideologies, fundamentals and the general overall control of pace for hockey games concerning positions, but............a 1C is just too valuable in history. With the way Kuch has been playing all throughout his career, I've always said that it was laughable and kind of annoying to have him on the wing. Your best player should always be dictating, and leading the charge offensively down the middle. It's the most logical thing to do considering the abundance of passing options.
All in all, I feel like peak Tampa with a hypothetical centre Kuch with the same production, would've decimated the entire league to shreds tbh lol. Instead of 62 wins, it's more like around 70. They'd have way more dominant playoff runs and a threepeat defining win in 2022 with Kuch anchoring line 1 and the semi elite Pre-Father Time corpse of Stamkos on line 2 would do way more damage. Tampa would be more balanced offensively as well
But hypotheticals are obviously hypotheticals for a reason
