What is Stepan worth next year and will there be money left to sign him after all the UFA'S get signed?

Should Sather try to extend him this year?

I'd give him the same contracts Dubi and Cally signed. 5.8 over 5 years. It brings him to 28/29. Lock him in for another 5 or 6 years after that. It's also some RFA years as well. Might even ask to start and say we'll give you the same deal your buddy Mcdonagh signed and see if he bites.

EDIT: He has two RFA with arbitration years left before UFA. A 5 year deal will be less cap than 6. Depends on the cap situation and how much it increases.

Brooks just tweeted out that Stepan will get north of 6 million in a Arb case.

More than what he would have had they just bought up all his remaining RFA and some of his UFA years last time he was up for contract.

I am okay with Stepan at $6m, but not Brassard at a penny over $4m. Am I crazy? lol

Jeff Carter, Partice Bergeron, Joe Pavelski, and John Tavares are in the same price range.

This time next year we will be paying Derek Stepan more than the Islanders are paying John Tavares through 2018.

Okay, and McDonagh makes $4.7M. Contracts don't make sense.

Stepan is comparable to Bergeron and Pavelski.

Machinehead you have always hated Stepan. All he does for this team is finish first or second in scoring every year be one of most valuable PK guys, be on the ice in every critical situation, play on the PP, and gut out a broken jaw in the playoffs. You obviously don't understand NHL contacts so do us all a favor and don't comment on Stepan. If ROR is worth 6 million Stepan is worth more because he plays a bigger role on his team than ROR does. Not even close!!

Depends how he does this year.

If he plays the entire year and puts up 60-65 points, I'd be happy with 6 years at 6, would even go up to 6.25 for 6 if that's what it took.

If he doesn't do as well and puts up around 55, or closer to 50, I'd offer 6 years at 5.5.

Just gotta wait and see.

ROR is not worth 6 million, he's one of the most overrated players in the league.

Well McDonagh's contract is absolute foul robbery, but I concede that so is JT's, so fine, we'll toss him.

Stepan has had 35 goal, 70 point seasons?

Bergeron hasn't had a season like that playing the insanely tough defensive minutes that he plays. It's not relevant.

Pavelski put up his big numbers playing next to Thornton, and his other high production seasons came when playing sheltered minutes and scoring a lot on the PP. Stepan is easily as valuable as Pavelski.
