Could be, I suppose. And probably not easy to convince many free agents to play in Canada, especially Ottawa, last off-season. Still, if I'm not mistaken he's getting 2x2 which is way more than he's worth.
Oh 100% but for a team barely paying over 71mil for their entire roster. It's a luxury for some of their players to get paid more than market.

I can't see much of anything happening, not unless they can move Scandella's contract, plus maybe another that's in the 3-4 Mil range.

So Faulk, Parayko, Krug, Mikkola seem to be our current top 4. So whoever we get needs to be better than Walman and Bortuzzo in order for it to be an upgrade. On the left side we could even go after a #1 left D then slide Krug and Mikkola down to the #2/3 pair. I really think we need an upgrade over Bortuzzo as well.

Scandella should not play anymore unless there's an injury and ideally we would find someone to take on his contract, either in a separate trade or included in this one. I'll always take Walman over Scandella in the lineup, left or right side.

If we could make it work cap wise I'd love to grab a top 4 and a 3rd pairing defender. Slide Mikkola to the RHD side. Say something like Lindholm at 50% and Mayfield and trade Scandella and send Perunovich down to the AHL. But this is a pipe dream and only in my dreams..... And NHL 22.

Anything less than Lindholm or Chychrun is disappointing. Of course prices will be high right now seeing how the deadline is about a month away. People keep talking about how much Chychrun will cost, but note that he is 23 (same age as Perunovich) on a very friendly AAV. I would be happy to trade for him using some combination of Perunovich + Neighbors/Kostin + 1st rounder/Bolduc. That would put the Blues in the top 3 in the league.

I would then form our D core as follows...

Chychrun Faulk
Krug Parayko
Mikkola Bortuzzo
Walman

Chychrun/Lindholm caliber player. A medium move or no move at all would be rather disappointing. We've got a special forward group here, can't waste it.

I'll add a vote for a medium move, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he did take the no or big move routes

I hope Army can make a trade to get Lindholm and if he can resign him that would be incredible. It would be a mistake to trade Perunovich I feel like that kid is going to be really good once he gets acclimated to the NHL. Blues future d core would be:

Lindholm-Parayko
Krug-Faulk
Mikkola-Pereunovich

That's a near perfect defense lineup.

If Army can't get Lindholm I think Giordano would be the next best trade, and would be nice as a rental. Chychrun would be great but I don't think it would be worth the price to get him.

Hopefully DA goes big from the get go….

However, if I was a betting man in Vegas…..I’d wager it turns out like a Jbo/Leopold situation in which DA gets a medium or low cost assets and then gets a call with a reduce price for the big asset we really need.

Wish there was a poll option for that.

With multiple options that fit Army's MO in how he targets in trades, I think he'll be able to pull off a move for Chychrun or an extended Lindholm.

Would you do it if Kyrou or Thomas is requested by the Yotes?
I doubt that's who they would want. I'd think they would want picks and younger guys, who are further away from free agency. I could see them wanting Pereunovich and Neighbours, plus picks.

I never heard of Buchnevich before we acquired him. He has turned out to be quite the bargain for us, one of our best forwards.

Maybe Armstrong has identified another such player, but a defenseman, and will deal for him at the deadline. Someone whose name hasn't come up before on in the trade thread.

I can dream cant I?

I think you have DAs thinking captured.

I just cannot imagine Armstrong seeing Krug try to race back and cover streaking forwards and thinking he can go into the playoffs with that player getting #3 minutes. I can't imagine Armstrong trusting Mikkola to get #3 minutes.

So he "WILL" try to address this.

I just don't know what Bill Armstrong or Pat Verbeek "WILL" do. So much of the market depends on whether Lindholm re-ups with the Ducks. It does seem like Doug Armstrong has the pieces to get either a Lindholm or Chychrun deal done. That's based on the reported ask for Chychrun and him being the most expensive (because you can have Lindholm or you can have Chychrun and 3M to hold onto your other talent). If a Provorov or Gavrikov is available under the radar then I'm open to those moves as well. There's no way they don't have an understanding of the availability & price for every possible NHLer at this position who might be a fix.

The Blues are unusually potent this year. They can attack all game long. This really is up there with 81, 91 and 00. All those teams lost in the 1st/2d round and if they don't make an addition that's where this team is headed also. They need one large sturdy support beam on the back end and they need it for more than one year. That's right in the wheelhouse for trades Armstrong likes to make.

If he can't get this big piece I see him trying to get a rental warm body who can play 20 minutes for less than a first. Likely a 2d+ depth prospect/3d/4th type of offer. The kind of offer that got Scandella. I don't see him missing out on the bigger guys but still paying a 1st for a less-than-sufficient rental as a panic move.

Went through a list of LH defenseman who could be available from non-playoff teams, and then ranked them based on who I think the best fit would be based on team fit/ability/term/acquisition cost.

Hampus Lindholm(UFA)
Jakob Chychrun
Vladislav Gavrikov
Ivan Provorov
Travis Sanheim
Mark Giordano(UFA)
Calvin de Haan(UFA)
Carson Soucy
Ryan Graves
Zdeno Chara(UFA)
Ben Chiarot(UFA)
Brenden Dillon
Nick Leddy(UFA)

Chara should be lower, but his cap hit/acquisition cost wouldn’t hold us back from getting 2 players on this list, and using him as a third pair/depth guy.
