What Went Wrong With The Canucks?

Seems like a combination of injuries, player regression, and reefression in terms of team play. They played a tough game last year. Very loose this season. The new coach bump wore off.

They had a really high PDO last year and they regressed to the average (something Canucks fans seemed to not want to believe.

EP is not an elite player
Demo is made of glass
Terrible management who botched the Miller trade

Hughes probably can’t wait to leave that dumpster fire

-Pettersson fell off a cliff
-Injuries to Demko, Hronek, Boeser and Hughes
-Selling extremely low on Miller
-Horrible defensive depth that didn’t get addressed until it was too late

i would add

-miller dressing room issues
-losing a ridiculous amount of ot games

i don't know that we sold extremely low on miller, but we definitely did not replace his scoring let alone his timely scoring. chytil was not executing and then he was gone.

Nothing. Theyre a bubble team on paper and overachieved last season.

Hronek is the only real decent defenseman who actually plays defense on that team and he is glued to Hughes who gets sheltered o zone starts. The rest of the D core gets beat up every shift because Hughes/Hronek never play agains the other teams top dogs. So its a game of trying to outscore your problems which Hughes does his best at, but now without Miller, and with EP40/Boeser playing below average they look like the garbage team they were assembled to be.

Boeser is gone and unless they overpay Nelson/Ehlers/Tavares/Bennet/Marchand theyll likely regress even more.

elias pettersson
demko cant stay healthy
quinn hughes needed to settle the rift in the locker room before it got out of hand.

Stop with this shadow Hughes critique.

Petterrsson just seems off to me, always has. He doesn't seem like the kind of leader you win with. And when you're the #1 center and a 100 pt. player, you have to be a leader.

And the whole drama with he and Miller obviously killed the season.

Demko injured for most of the year. Hughes injured. Not that surprising.
Pettersson was also injured the entirety of the season, that’s why he’s been so off.

Missing 16 games isnt the entire season. Is this the phantom McDaivd injury Oilers fans used to make an excuse for his production being "down" even though his ES PPG were up and the only reason why points are down is because hes getting less PP opps per game?

If there ever was a post to say someone doesn’t follow a situation is hockey, yet tries to comment on it. This right here is it.

Something happened last year around the all star game. Their play fell off a cliff, especially Pettersson's specifically. In the playoffs they worked hard but could barely get 20 shots on her a game. Then whatever was going on with the team just bled into this season, which wasn't helped by all the other factors, which were a mix of bad luck (injuries, key players imploding) and mismanagement (the D coming into the season).

Excuses for well documented reality?
The well documented reality is he missed a few weeks around Christmas right when Miller hurt his feelings only to come back and play in the 4 nations when that was the obvious chance to rest if needed and then this latest injury. In what universe is that the whole season?

Either it is BS claiming that as an excuse for his production being down or he really has had a serious lingering injury and it is pure incompetence/negligence on EP40 and/or the Canucks for him playng.

Like the lingering injury that’s been reported all season?

Pettersson is an elite player. The problems with him are completely personal/mental. I honestly don't know if we can win with him as our top centre but when playing to his abilities he is absolutely an elite player. He needs to get way stronger, better conditioned and find his confidence.

Strange that the whining thread about Forbort/Trenin disappeared after what was surely going to be a suspension for Trenin? How’d that go?

What went wrong with Canucks? Never was anything all that right with them so hard to see why they are in any different position today. Certainly not interesting enough to be consistently inundated with thread after thread regarding the team.

Feel free to keep the Canuck talk and pearl clutching on the Canuck board like most any other team on this site. Wouldn’t need to fully remove threads in the future that way.

So why is he playing?! Some common sense here. Everyone is hurt all the time. If its that bad, he shouldnt be in the lineup. If its nothing, take your tampon out and stop crying.
Those who actually read about the situation rather than just try and post about it online know why.

They traded away their best forward (and one of the best in the league) for pennies on the dollar, and hitched their wagon to an overpaid pissbaby. I don't know what else anyone would've expected. If Miller was too competitive for poor baby EP to handle, trade EP's sorry ass. If Miller was too competitive for Hughes and the rest of the squad to handle, you've got yourself an extremely fragile team that won't win shit.
