Maurice doesn't seem like a coach who can come up with a solution to the problems the roster he has is having. The personnel things, be it injury or illness or off-ice stuff, are all roster issues that he doesn't seem able to adapt his remaining players to find a way to manufacture wins.

Which contact out of these is bad?

The only one currently you can probably dunk on is Barkov and he was given that contract as one of the best centers in the league.

Why would anyone dunk on Barkov’s contract? It was pretty team friendly.

I think you missed my point. Even if the contracts were good, he created the cap crunch for himself. He didn’t just inherit a cap mess made by Tallon. Far from it. He made the cap mess, but there’s an argument to be made that the cap mess was worth it. I still think it didn’t have to be this ugly.

Lol. How did he make the cap mess? Yandle, Bob, etc were all Tallon and co signings.

Disaster of a season.

Duclair out injured who was a big part of our depth, injuries galore, lose Weegar on the backend and Marchment.

To make it worse Maurice is an awful coach not playing a style we are accustomed to, not to mention his love affair with Eric Staal and Marc Staal. E Staal is getting top line mins at like 40, dude would be ECHL rn if it wasn’t for Maurice.
Bottom line it will be a very mediocre season, but lots of cap space opening up at the end of the year. Should rebound for next season.

With what picks we do have it should all be Dmen, the forward group is quite young.

They traded the two key guys who played 80 games for their President’s Trophy team and kept the two key guys who play 60 a year.

Idk what to tell ya dude. This is pretty straight forward. If the last guy spent a quarter the money on bad contracts and gets canned, three years later and three quarters of a salary cap later (and three first round picks later), you don’t get to just cry foul about the last guy’s remnants. He didn’t run out of cap space because of Tallon. He ran out of cap space because of his own decisions.

He still is, just not getting the points. Just having an injury and child-custody battle. Also hooting at career-low 7%.

...No, just no. Cap space is at such a premium in this league that assets like Pacioretty and Bjorkstrand are getting traded for little-to-nothing, and those players are good players signed to reasonable contracts that expire relatively soon. Bobrovsky's contract is unmovable - too much length, too much AAV. It's not like Be a GM mode on the NHL games where you can always force a deal - this is real life where teams are just not willing to take on an anchor of a deal like that with the length that it has. Naturally, because of the enormous AAV of the deal, it will always be a stain that Tallon left behind that is not Zito's fault. So while technically it is true that he didn't run out of cap space because of Tallon, it is also true that Tallon smeared shit on the walls with that deal that will significantly alter the Panthers cap situation for the remainder of the deal.

If you watched them in the playoffs last year, it was clear that they had overachieved in the regular season. It's even more clear when you look at the season before last year. I don't think they are underachieving by much this season

Here's hoping they contimue their sucking to the point of bwing sellers at the TDL and they try to recouo a 1st. And for the record, I hope my team keeps sucking too, I just want the 2 picks the Habs have to be as high as possible.

I mean, between the Darling & Yandle buyouts and Bobrovsky, they’re basically operating with a 66 million dollar cap ceiling. On top of that they have the thoroughly mediocre Paul Maurice steering the ship.

My favorite excuse is “look how many players we lost because of the cap”…as if having your team gutted from poor cap management is an excuse. You have an 10 million dollar mediocre goalie, that’s a bad contract…not an issue imposed solely by a salary cap issue. Other teams (including MUCH better teams) manage the cap better. It’s not an one to lie monster that guys your team into oblivion without mercy

Same with injuries, your team has no depth. That’s not an excuse, that’s poor roster construction

Panthers threw around firsts like candy, did absolutely nothing in the playoffs, treated cap management poorly, and made awful roster decisions. That’s why they are in their position.

There’s a certain amount of cap management which is foresight and a certain amount which is a gamble.

Hired a horrible coach and their defense/goaltending sucks. But they are better than their record shows - one of the better five on five teams xgf in the league.

Still don't understand why they fired a young coach who took them to a president's trophy.
All Brunette did was keep Quenneville's system going on untill playoffs started and it netted Panthers president's trophy. He was very, very badly overcoached by opponents in playoffs.

Maurice

and 10 AAV on a goalie that can't do F all

is what happened

P.S. Atlantic Division once again is the TOUGHEST division in the NHL that would also add to the issues

Why did they hire Maurice again?

I wonder whether he would take a cab or would he be able to take uber that is paid for by the organization

important questions
