Locker room cancer, he's had an attitude problem since his junior days. Had question marks before being dealt to the Soo and eventually winning CHL Dman of the year.

Matthews, Tavares and Nylander are all 40+ goal scorers at some time in their career. Nylander has 3 straight 40 goal season. Hell, Matthews is averaging 52 a season over the course of his career.

If he signs for 12.5 or higher people won’t stop bitching about how overpaid he is.

I'd have some interest for the right price. Definitely not moving a 1st or top prospect for him. Gustafsson would probably need to go back in any deal. Not sure how the avs would feel about that.

I think he could be a good fit for this team but he's not an Yzerman type. He loves big Dmen.

I get from a pure value perspective, but if Colorado has to take cap back they probably would hope for higher end pieces approaching the value of a later first. So if cap has to come back it would just require a bit of balancing

I rather overpay Marner than pay Holl,Tarasenko, Copp and Compher. If we can dump 3/4 it's the less money than Marner....

Either overpay, or have another rather uneventful season where we see the team struggling to make the playoffs?

I'd rather see Marner come to Detroit, get his $$$, and potentially help the Wings end the postseason drought.

If he scores like Raymond but can also be a good player in the playoffs then I'll happily overpay for that.

I'm not exactly optimistic that would all unfold. But paying $12-13M AAV to get "another Raymond" without losing any other assets (and with the cap going up) would be a GOOD problem to have.

Put another way: all free agents are overpaid. But if (big if) Detroit gets first line production by overpaying a free agent, that's a win, not a loss.

Detroit had one of the worst defense corps in the entire league. Give it a rest, bud.

8th worst goal differential. 13th worst goals against. One of the lowest scoring team defenses. The Yzerfence sucks.
