Maple Leafs grant Islanders permission to speak to Brendan Shanahan (upd: released by Leafs)

What is wrong with this league

How desperate do you have to be to be after Shanahan today

10 years ago I get it, today just pure desperation

I read that he made $2.5 million a year for his first 5 years and then he made $7 million a year for 6 years. That’s an insane amount of money there to be the president of the leafs

Just wanna point out this sorta chronyism amongst the highest paying jobs probably isn’t limited to the nhl. It’s amazing to me how we vilify those with the least, yet absolute bellends bounce around better jobs f***ing up wherever they go.

Anywho, sure, this dude did things and if it doesn’t work out he can go back to DoPS or be a commentator or whatever he likes.

Going from Lou to Shanahan...I mean...did they not see what Shanahan did in Toronto? And did they not see that Lou walked away from the "Shanaplan"?
To he fair, Shanahan made a good regular season team out of a mess if a team that couldn't make the PO after Johnny, Jr. decided to be like his dad and make horrible trades and drafts

It doesn’t matter who the Isles pick, his “smug on the outside, crying on the inside” reaction will be the same lol. The shtick is played out
Yea because news of shanny possibly going to NYI has been so praised here. Well only by leaf fans who can’t wait for him to leave

Islanders are f***ed. They’re a catastrophe away from becoming the 2011-2022 Devils. Old lineup, bad drafting, too many picks traded, nothing doing in Bridgeport for years. The pipeline was ignored and left to rot.

The Montreal model is their only hope for a quick turnaround, but that will require at least two or three more losing seasons. Thing is, Habs had a halfway decent pipeline before Bergevin was fired. With all due respect to Nelson and Eiserman, whomever takes over the Isles will have to begin the process with the 2025 draft.

Hallmarks of Lou.

His son has been abysmal as GM of the Sound Tigers.
