For years Rodgers was considered the most skilled and then Pat came along. What is Rodgers missing from his game (or his career since he's 40) that Mahomes has, or has figured out to have 3 super bowl wins versus 1?

I mean, at this point, it is safe to assume that Mahomes has exceeded Rodgers's career.

Some of it is just luck and opportunity, being on better teams and getting more bounces.
But also I think he's just a little greater too. Rodgers has taken too many deflating sacks in big games at bad times. Mahomes despite not being as fast or much of a pure runner, always seems to be able to avoid taking that sack and improvising and making something out of nothing, and picking up a big 1st down when it looks like he's dead in the water, with a pump fake, looking one way etc.
He might just be a little smarter and better in clutch.

the only guys i'm putting ahead of mahomes now are brady, montana, and manning (longevity.) he's already surpassed rodgers and with another several onsistently good seasons he'll surpass manning too

In terms of pure talent - - accuracy, arm strength, scrambling ability, reading coverage - - John Elway and Aaron Rodger’s are the gold standard for measuring quarterbacks.
But Elway only won two rings and Rodger’s just one. Partly because of piss-poor coaching and partly because their teams relied so much on them instead of having a more balanced run/pass and offence/defence make up.

Andy Reid. They are close, Mahomes is more clutch and probably a tiny bit better as a runner and even thrower but Rodgers with a HC the caliber of Reid would have multiple SB wins.
Mahomes is an all-time great talent but man did he ever fall in the perfect situation; Reid, Kelce, Tyreek, a stable competent organization, etc.
The chatter was that the Saints were really high on Mahomes in that draft year but the Chiefs jumped ahead of them to snag him. If the Saints draft Mahomes, does he even have a SB appearance at this point?

Pretty clear he meant that figuratively not literally.
Rodgers isn’t far off on a per attempt basis though. Over a full 600 attempt season it’s like a 37 TD, 7 INT stat line for Mahomes and a 35 TD, 10 INT stat line for Rodgers.
Mahomes playoffs: 6.1 TD%, 1.2 INT%
Rodgers playoffs: 5.8 TD%, 1.7 INT%

It's easy to say he fell into the perfect situation with Reid, but it is just as easy to say Reid fell into the perfect situation with Mahomes

Absolutely. Before KC won, Andy Reid was always considered a guy who always outcoached himself and was terrible when the game was on the line. Now he gets Mahomes and wins and suddenly he's a genius and one of the best of all time. Fans of sports are incredibly fickle and have no long-term memory.

You can’t be considered elite until you’ve won a championship. Racking up stats is great, but ultimately the only thing that matters in sports is winning championships.
This is why every Hall of Fame should be split into two categories. An upper level and a lower level.
Hall of Fame greats who never managed to win anything and the Hall of Fame elites who put up great stats AND won championships.
Reid was always a winning coach though, even with B to C level quarterbacks (5 conference championships appearances, one SB appearance), he's alot like Shanahan in that regard. This isn't the same situation as Bill Bellichik who's only bouts of success coincide with him having Tom Brady as his QB.
But winning SB's with B to C level QB's is hard, you need an historically great defense to pull it off.

Sure he had some poor teams in Green Bay, but even when they had their string of 13-3 seasons the Packers were 1 and done or 2 in done when it counted
This while having MVP seasons too. Just never seemed to elevate his game to the point Mahomes has.
Still couldn't bet against the Chiefs this playoffs simply because they have a QB that when the going gets tough he finds a way to excel. Not something I've ever really said about Rodgers even though he was able to throw MVP regular seasons together.

I understand. It's just funny how the narrative changed once he won. It wasn't a "he finally got over the hump but he was always a fantastic coach." It was always "He's a guy who just can't help falling apart down the stretch." "He's not a good game manager." So on and so on. Even in the Chiefs first of the most recent three they were calling it an Andy Reid special up until the 4th quarter.

It’s the exact same narrative for Kyle Shanahan - - great coach but can’t manage to hold onto a two score lead in the Super Bowl three consecutive times.
Shanahan will never be considered an elite coach until he finally figures out how to win a championship.

Mahomes is by far the most clutch QB since prime Brady. When these guys go into berserk mode they are unstoppable
Rodgers is a great QB but to me he is a small notch below Mahomes , Brady. and Manning. He's still one of the best ever to do it and not that far behind though along with Brees
