What NHL player name did you always say wrong and were corrected by someone???

By far the worst I've heard is from the Canucks fans... they call Radim Vrbata "Ver-Bat-a" when it's Ver-Bawta"....It's gotten so bad they actually call him "Ver Bat man"

For myself, I effed up on Michalek and called him Mitch-a-lek :shakehead pretty brutal considering I said it right in front of OEL

Sakic, I always pronounced the last part like the "ic" in Lucic.

I kinda have a hard time pronouncing German names of non-German players the North-American way, like Braun or Eichel for a example. Same with Polish names, it just feels so wrong. :D

That's the proper pronunciation, isn't it? "Sak-eech".

For me it was Patrick ROY. At first it pronounced it 'Roy' until i was informed it was actually Patrick 'Wa'.

I felt at peace for a while , until Derek Wa was drafted by the Sabres . Then I was informed it was actually Derek 'Roy' , and this is where all the problems started.

At first I tried to keep it straight in my head but invariably (and weve all been there) I was caught out saying Patrick Roy instead of 'Wa'. Then of course the reverse happened and I stated Derek Wa and caught flack for that at the bar one night.

So I wrote it down on a piece of paper which worked great until I washed my coat with the paper in it. So then I got some cloth and wrote it on there and sewed it into my coat. Unfortunately I would have to take the coat off to review it -which was inconvienent and sometimes embarrassing.

Then Patrick Wa retired and all was well. Until of course that damn Jonathan Toews was drafted ..........but its NOT TOEWS NOW IS IT???? IS IT???

Its Jonathan Taves.

So I gave up and started drinking.

That's correct according to NHL pronunciation guide and Kulikov himself.

Rozsival should be here...never heard the correct pronunciation, the commentators always say "Rosewall". The right is Roz-see-val

I just call him Fuggy Bear, just never to his face.

Jordano was a tough one to wrap my head around after years of calling him GeeOhh. Still call him GeeOhh in conversation, as do most Flames fan I know. Hearing someone say Cal-Gary boils my blood for some reason. Sobotka would be mine, even though I know the proper pronunciation from dating Polish girls, it's just something my brain will never catch. Like how to spell excersize.

Well, I think Gio as his nick name is ok. But GeeOh Dano is incorrect.

I asked my friend how I say Buff's name. Apparently I still get it wrong. I say "Buff lund". :baghead: I just can't seem to wrap my mind around his name for some odd reason.

Still can't say it.

Carlo Cokacola....colacavachio....colonoscopy.....carlo calcovlockibivio...carlo calolilolvolociavio

Yes. Imagine calling Milan Lucic "Milan Lou-kick"

Maybe Joe Sakic's family changed the pronunciation when they came to Canada but it should definitely be sak-ich

Definitely the family's doing. It's not uncommon, one of my best friends has a Czech last name and pronounces it in an annoyingly sterilized fashion.
