The only thing Babcock is owed is a swift kick in the nuts. There’s no “he went about it the wrong way, but…”. It was his job to mold the players and develop them and instead he wanted to play mind games with them. Theres no indication whatsoever that any of the crap he pulled with them, or questionable hockey decisions he made, were based on him seeing troubling trends with them re: entitled or whatnot.

Marleau and Kadri said Babs was fine. Kadri even credited Babs in his development. Ill take a hard ass who is occasionally not liked by some players like Tortorella, Cassidy and Babs over cream puff Keefe any day. Guess what, each of them have cups too. But that probably just a coincidence. Keefe struggled to win a round and even the round he barely did get out of, the opponents defense was heavily injured. He should've been fires after one of the Montreal/Columbus series embarrassments. It's shocking he's hung around this long.

Where is that eyesore of a newgm? Is he gonna say anything?

why don't you give him at least a year on the job before making almost every single post about him & his "incompetence", its almost as if your opinions about him are based on your unhealthy attachment to his predecessor.

I understand this team is not good enough to win a Presidents trophy or Stanley Cup. But good lord with the five stars we have we should make the playoffs. This is all on Keefe.

All Marner cares about is his next contact. Looking for the $16M AAV. Of coarse he is going to say he is playing great.

I'd fire Keefe after the road trip. Hire berube and see what he can do with this group up until a few days before the deadline. If he helps to make us better great we move forward with this group and own rental our free agents. If he doesn't help we ship out our free agents and look to restructure and add through free agency and use a couple picks we've gained for another defender.

Fans spend way too much time overanalyzing these fairly brief media quotes.

Either guy likely spent a split second at most thinking before they spoke

Marner hasn't had a great season (by his standards) and Keefe is starting to earn more legit criticism, but it's silly to tear into them for stuff like thisn

This team, the 'leaders' fall back on the "its us against the world" or "In this room we beleive in ourselves" even if other don't.....they do that too much.

"Us against everyone who doesn't believe in us" can be used OCCASIONALLY, but it is NOT appropriate to use to defend yourself when you are falling short of expectations. Its just an excuse.

Not only that...in the end the NHL is ENTERTAINMENT, pull that 'us against them' stuff too much ESPECIALLY when the 'them' is your fanbase, well, you aren't going to be liked all that much.
I don't know about you...but the part that really bothers me about his "Us against the mean media" is that they are literally coddled by the same media he complains about. They never really ask tough questions of anyone...even Keefe and Shanny. The last time some media guy asked a tough question was of Babs after the 2nd Boston series when he asked about why Patty Cakes was playing more than AM and Babs stormed off.

aren’t sportsnet and tsn owned by the same guys that own the team. Got to be a team player

Trading Marner, his dog Zeus, his dad Paul, his video games, his karaoke machine, media complaints, dancing, singing, fumbled words, soft play and Mickey Mouse shirts would be a huge start to changing the baby soft image of this team.

Tough to rage on without a vivid imagination.
A simple out of context quote is enough of a trigger.

Except in this case Marner has said very similar stuff in the past, so it’s not just a split second decision. He knows what he’s saying.

Does he actually believe it? Who knows? He’s probably just saying it to try and not create a narrative (although he’s doing an awful job), but can’t blame fans for taking at face value what he’s said multiple times.
