What is the most you'd give up for Tage?

MBN+1st+ Wallinder perhaps. I doubt that'd be enough for Buffalo to move him. He's on a great contract. They'd probably want Kasper or Danielson and again the issue is that we have no center depth after Larkin.

I think the Wings would need to address the center issue before you could go after a big time winger via tradeable assets.

Kasper is a no go. Danielson or MBN + protected 1st + salary going the other way + B level prospects. Yzerman likes to say he wont put the cart before the horse. I hope he stands true to it, Dont get jumpy going after a big splash before the team has accomplished anything.

Something Like this is probably about the best we could offer. Id be willing to go pretty light on the pick protection ie. lottery win would be the only protection. Maybe add soderblom in there?

I'm a big Danielson guy and I would absolutely be willing to do Danielson + 1st + for Tage.

Id love to keep Elmer if they can.... he seems like he is just starting to scratch the surface on realizing what he can do. That zone entry yesterday, keeping poise, setting up the Simon goal was something you dont often see from big guys, just starting to figure it out. Im a big Ras fan also, and he hasn't made many plays like that at all in his career. I realize you need to give to get but most of the current kids on the roster are looking like keepers... if they can get away with it, much rather give up the unknowns.

Berggren seems the most likely to be moved from that group, if you find a team that values his style of play. To Berggren's credit he has been much better with the new regime, and doesn't seem too soft to play against.

Danielson also seems like an untouchable but Tage wouldn't be cheap. I would not envy Yzerman trying to put a package together for a Tage like player. It helps if you move him for a center that fits in long term, you then at least know you have Larkin, Compher, Kasper, Copp and whoever going forward down the middle... with Kasper having shown the ability to play the wing effectively.

This has been my question about Thompson for awhile. Is he really a center or is he Cozens deluxe? I'm not really interested in seeing us dump big assets in a winger trade.

Tage is a center

The cost would be way higher than what has been suggested so far. He’s huge, a premium goal scorer, and he is on an excellent contract at 7.1m AAV for a long time. The cost would not only be astronomical, but there is zero shot they trade him for prospects.

Yeah I don't see how we get Buffalo to agree.

I'm not moving Seider, Raymond, Larkin or Edvinsson for him. I say that and then they hang up.

And if I put together the insane 5 good pieces for 1 great piece trade that maybe Buffalo considers, then I'm not sure how far ahead we come out. I'd do it because a young cost controlled 1C is worth making those kinds of sacrifices for. That trade is probably something like Kasper + ASP + Buch + Compher + our 1st. It's probably a smart choice- the bird in the hand- but I hate it. I think if we want Buffalo to listen to us- and we're not interested in moving one of our untouchables- then it's going to take a trade like that. I don't think anyone is all that interested in that either.

So this is probably a non-starter unless the premise is that Stevie Y works some of his mind control. If that's the case, we can probably spare Sabres fans having to read our proposals.

I wouldn't move Kasper/ASP for him. I would do multiple 1st round picks, Danielson and other prospects.

Either way, I would be stunned if Tage is moved and even more surprised if we landed him.

I think the only way it's possible is if Buffalo finally accepts the reality of their place in the competitive cycle.

If the Sabres admit that their current core is never getting it done and they're willing to rebuild the rebuild, then I'm starting with 2 first rounders and 2 second rounders and seeing how high it has to go with just draft picks. I'd definitely go up to 3 firsts and several seconds, and maybe even 4 firsts.

But if they refuse to budge from one or more roster players then I don't see Detroit being a good match.

3 firsts? 4 firsts?

Not a chance. 2 max. And even then that is pricey.

I don't think we'd be willing to trade what they want and there's absolutely 0 chance Yzerman will part with more than 2 firsts.

Likely cost would be Danielson, Kasper, and a first or something in that realm. Maybe Buch Kasper and a first or two.

No matter what if Kasper, Raymond, edvinsson, and asp are untouchable there is no deal getting done.

Compher and a 1st.

The dude is a center that plays like a winger and is probably just a 30-30-60 guy on Detroit where he wouldn’t be top line and he’d be expected to play defense.

You're perfectly entitled to your opinion. I'm at the point in the rebuild that I'm willing to deal as many draft picks as it takes to add the right 1-2 long term additions and maximize the next 5 years. (I don't see any picks from 2025 onward being good enough soon enough to be more valuable than getting actual NHL players.)

Probably accurate.
