What is the cause of the Bruins mediocrity?

To me one of the biggest reasons this team is mediocre right now is that Carlo has hit the rookie wall. Meaning they are void of a top pairing.

And a good coach would recognize this and sit his 20-year-old rookie for a couple of games.

How can you say they play their hearts out for him after the the past seasons and now this one? They didn't show up games 6 or 7 vs the Habs then crapped the bed down the stretch run for two seasons. This year they seem like they aren't ready to play until they are down. Now grown men shouldn't need to be motivated but for some reason this group does. Get a coach in here who will challenge them in new ways. It's stale. It's over.

:handclap:

Chemistry?

That's a cop out. Overused, tired excuse when teams or fans don't want to admit that their problems are much deeper.

The team as presently constructed isn't good enough. They're not a contender, that is clear. Even to be reasonably competitive (i.e. a playoff team) they'd need to go ballz to the wall every night and they do not do that.

Talent can compensate for effort to some extent. Effort can make up for shortfalls in talent to some extent.

Bruins are both lacking in talent and consistent effort. Couple that with some questionable decisions by the coaching staff and you have a recipe for mediocrity...at best.

The only reason Marchand is having a subpar season so far is because his center(Bergeron) is been hurt the majority of the season. You see the last 3-4 games, Bergeron has been getting better and playing gods. The last 3-4 games Marchand has been scoring.

January 10th 2016, San Jose was 12th in the West and Pittsburgh was 11th in the East. They ended up meeting in the Stanley Cup Finals. No reason to give up on this team yet. They have outstanding underlying numbers and have battled through more key injuries than most teams. If they find their way out of a historically terrible lack of finishing touch, they'll make the playoffs and they are going to be a troubling matchup for almost any other team.

Agree, and I don't consider Marchand part of the problem. Lack of overall talent, with a huge dropoff after certain top players...and a lack of consistent effort. Deadly combo.

Did anyone really expect the bruins to do better? Mind you Carlo has been a welcome surprise but this team is built on defense, and without Tuukka being lights out which he has been this team would be nowhere close to a playoff spot. The Bruins need a top D man 1st and foremost.

Shattenkirk should be who we are still after. If this is not the case than fire CJ now because that is what the team is built around.

Cam Neely on Bruins’ performance: ‘It’s been a frustrating year’
http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/...uins_performance_it_s_been_a_frustrating_year

Welcome to the party Cam.

How about a frustrating 3 years? Something has to be done. Either in the front office/coaching or a blockbuster trade has to happen for things to change. Too many nights the effort isnt there - team is stagnant and the leadership isnt working. Everytime the Bruins have to play a big game they are PATHETIC - whether its a huge game to get into playoffs, the Winter Classic, day after marathon bombing or game after Milts passing this team chokes it.

a third line that is a mediocre 4th line. A team needs a decent third line to produce points in close games because most nhl games are one goal games that can go either way at any given time. The montreal canadiens get points because most nights there third line outplays the opponents third line.

Funny... the Bruins were sitting pretty in a playoff spot at that time, too.

It goes both ways.

That's why I've had enough of Julien.

Two years in a row the B's were in a perfect position to make the playoffs with only a few games to play and imploded both times.

That's mostly on the head coach as far as I'm concerned....and the B's had the Pens # for the last few years.

It's time for Claude to pack his bags, and take his boring system elsewhere!
