Should he have skated to the bench and picked up a new stick ?

or waited initially, and then skated to the bench ?

or a forward give them their stick ?

It's a tough play because they're immediately breaking up the ice. I personally think that if he jumped off it would have been a 2 on 1. I do think Kampf should have given him his stick (Benoit was yelling at him for it. It looks like Marner expected Kampf to give him his stick, so he committed too far to one side to cover the cross (even though both their D were high). Just a bad break that led to a chaotic breakdown.

His ceiling is pretty much where he is now, I think. Nothing wrong with it. He’s a solid, physical, lower pairing old-school NHL defenseman.
I’d say he’s a great 5-6, who can spot top 4 to protect a lead. I say this as someone who absolutely hated him last preseason and was terrified when he got called up. Dude hasn’t been given anything and has become a reliable, stay at home, fairly IQ awareness, physical D man. Yes please, a great cheap find by Treliving.

A solid number 7, borderline AHL'er.
Takes stupid penalties.
Not a particularly good skater, and very mediocre gap control.
Makes every defensive partner look worse.
People like him because he hits, but he has to, because when he is playing you can bet the other team will have the puck and be pressing us.
Last game against the Pens was his game in a nutshell.
He routinely gets caved.

Hopefully Benoit and Hakanpää become a lethal duo in the post season.
Lethal to our goaltenders for sure.

If you look at last night his partner was a defensive tire fire. As for the penalties, Berube volunteered he thought the call against Benoit was bullshit.

He's 7 months older than Liljegren so he can't get any better.

Actually, he's only played 210 NHL games so perhaps we have to wait until he gets more games played?
Huh? Chara was no one at Lily's age. Benoit is solid bang for our buck but once they want the money you have to let him go..like Lily.
