Again, the goalie had plenty of time to reset but chose to shove Palmieri, who was already out of the crease, instead of doing his job and getting reset. He had more than sufficient time to focus on the shot. Palms was already 6 feet away when he tipped the puck. Worst call I've seen in years.

You‘re conveniently ignoring that it was 0.8 seconds when the shot went past him. The shot was in the air for half a second.

So you’re giving him something like 0.2-0.3 seconds to get ready for the shot?

It’s really not a defensible position.

idk what isles fans and their team is so upset about. It’s clear as day that Palmeri trips over merzlikens and has his skate somewhat in the crease as he is leaning back into merzlikens. Elvis pushes palmeri forward to get palmeri off him and out of the crease as the shot on goal is released.

1. That’s goaltender interference
2. There was absolutely no time for merzlikens to reset as the shot is released before he is done pushing palmeri off of him

Even if his skate wasn’t in the crease (which it was when elvis decided to push palmeri) Do isles players and fans really think if you just lean back into the crease and into the goalie it’s not goalie interference just because your skate is marginally outside of the crease?

Players may as well start boxing out goalies then. But ref! It was only my ass in the crease not my skates! 😂

I mean, we see variations in enforcement and review regularly. The league remains inconsistent in basic rules - what is possession on off-side, what and where is goalie contact around the crease or outside the crease, what is or is not a kicking motion. It sucks to have a supposed pro league be this inconsistent but it's baked into how they officiate regularly, so... this is just more of their normal operations.

lol why would a goalie have a right over any skater to any space outside the crease? If you truly believe that, start a movement to make the crease bigger, sure, but in no way can that be used as an argument that this should be goalie interference in this case as the rules are currently written.

Atrocious call and a disgrace for the NHL to let that stand on a review. It's one thing for a ref to get it wrong in real time but no excuse on the review to not overturn the call on the ice.

So since palmieris ass is clearly in the crease you want it called back because a player should have zero access to the crease?

Merzlinkins skate clipped Palmieri skate while Palmieri was outside the crease. That’s what caused his upper body to slightly lean back.

If this is goalie interference then every time a player is just outside the crease, every goalie should touch him in case there’s a goal it can be discounted.

This picture just proves it’s goaltender interference.

So you just want players to be able to impede a goalie and box them out from being able to get in position to make a save as long as the players skates aren’t in the crease?

Teams may as well have 1 forward stand right outside of the crease leaning back or sticking out their ass boxing the goalie out from being able to get in their position to make saves. That way if a defender comes and try’s to help their goalie, they can argue they were pushed into the crease by the opposing team!

The nhl would shut that down pretty quickly like they did with the Avery vs Brodeur incident

This is such a homer post. Come on.

Rule stinks but dude was in the crease. This had nothing to do with anything.

If that's goalie interference I am guessing 1/2 of the goals in this league can be called for goalie interference

Palmeri’s skating angle was going to take him through the crease.

It’s definitely a smart play on Elvis’s end if he also intentionally did this but this is on palmeri. If you’re going to skate that close or through the crease the goalie is generally going to cut you off. Palmeri was trying to impede the goalie by wanting to cut through the crease and the goalie cut him off to cause surefire interference.

Now if palmeri’s body was not in the crease, since the contact was both parties fault and was happening outside the crease, it would be a good goal

Not sure you understand what 3D means.....

Tell me this, if your skates are outside the crease, goalie is in the crease, are you allowed to plant your elbow in the goalies head? I mean, you are "outside the crease" right?

The rulebook does not imply there is a 3D crease. It does state there is a line (2D), and a line means a line.

Let's say there is a 3D crease. Is the goalie allowed to cross his line? Because Merzlikins crosses his too.

Yea....keep reading table 16, you will see AND there is no contact....etc, nice try though.

Can you now please tell the court who initiated the contact?

Exactly. Good goal.

Notice how none of that makes any reference to the player’s location, that the decisive factor is the goalie’s location?

Zdeno Chara could be standing 13 feet outside the crease, but if he stretches the tip of his stick blade over to nudge the goalie, that’s still interference. It doesn’t matter that Chara’s inside the faceoff circle, the interference is defined by its effect on the goaltender.
This is a straw man. Nobody is arguing that you should be able to interfere with your stick from outside the crease.

You have it backwards. The goalie bumped Palmieri. The rules state that Palmieri can legally occupy the ice he was in. We have a problem waiving this off.

Unfortunately there are two ways GI can be ref’d: discretionary which will lead to some bad calls, or zero contact policy (whistle or penalty depending on which team initiates contact)

Not a goalie, or don't have much interaction with anything that requires actual reaction timing I can see....

Goalie was in the crease, Palmierie bumped the goalie, how hard is this for you?

He was nowhere NEAR the crease! TERRIBLE CALL!
Not the point. The point is you could see Merzlinkins already outside the crease making contact with Palmieri while Palmieri is outside the crease in the picture I posted.

It’s not that difficult. Watch the video. Anyone who thinks that’s legit goalie interference needs to have their head examined

So, the majority of people outside of Long Island. Got it lol.

We can all agree the rule itself sucks though.

I think it becomes a joke every year, the desire to protect goaltender like they are toddlers is ridiculous, players have a job to do in front of the net and when they try to not touch the goaltender or barely touch it and it doesn't do anything they have a call against them. That was clearly a good goal, I work in video editing during hockey games, I watch over 500 games live per year, I have seen way too many bulls*it calls like that. If the player is outside the crease or when the goaltender put himself into a contact situation the goal should be good. OH and also defensemen that pushes the players into the goaltender should have a 2 min interference I can't believe they blame the forward everytimes. This league is a joke when comes to referees

I guess we're not ever going to come to an agreement here if you believe that is the order of events.

Once again, the rules state Palmieri was legally allowed to occupy the ice he was on. We have a problem here waiving it off
