This thread is so F***ing frustratingly stupid. I'm actually shocked to see some of these arguments on a so-called hockey board. Most of them HAVE to be other team trolling. To ignore recent history seems so obviously blind.

1) There's no reason Price can't come back and thrive with Montreal. "Obviously he's done" Why, because were rebuilding? Might I bring your attention to Henrik Lundqvist and Roberto Luongo, 2 amazing goaltenders who stuck it out with teams that weren't contending, still put up damn solid seasons, and even had some brief playoff success.

2) The ignoring of the value of a big game player is hilarious. Look anywhere in Price's career, juniors, AHL, NHL, Olympics, World Cups. This guy shows up when it counts. Who gives a shit if his regular season stats are sub par the last few seasons. Look at Patrick Roy's stats in 93 when he won the cup in Montreal.

3) Looking at goalie stats as a pure product of a singular player is laughable, These "average" seasons of Price's?! Look at the team that was in front of him. Any level headed hockey fan can see that he's strapped entire teams on his back and dragged them as far as he possibly could.

4) To the classy poster that brought up drug addiction. It's never come out what he was supposedly addicted too. Newsflash: You can just as easily get addicted to doctor prescribed medications as anything else. The fact that people automatically jump to the seedy hardcore stuff, I'd suggest looking inside yourself to figure out why your mentality automatically goes to such dark places.

I think he will be back with Montreal.

Though, while I think many would disagree, if I was another team I would be happy to trade for him if the price was a 7th or essentially free. Montreal is in a rebuild and will not retain as it makes no sense for them to use future cap space to free some up now.

IMO Price is still one of the best in the league, and goalies can stay on later in their career. Price is still hungry for a cup and while he may not always win the Vezina, I think he is the best playoff goalie out there, bar none.

The only way Price leave Montreal is if he actually ask for it to happen. I'm sure he'll be the Canadiens goalie next season.

I used to think that there is no way Price would leave the Habs , and the only way he leaves if its his choice , but maybe he changes his mind and would consider it? Change of scenery and fresh start , new outlook on life?
If its a good move for his family i can see him at least consider it now.

Why do you think he can't be back?

Suréy because of the amazing goalie prospects in the Hans organization that ready to step up /s

For real though, no one (serious) has been brought in as a replacement, no one is playing lights out, and no young goalie in the org is looking anywhere ready

It's my personal guesd that he will stary but won't finish next season due to injuries and then be forced to retire for health reasons, but he's no quitter. He'll definitely start the year and can still compte when healthy. No reason for him not to come back, but Habs org should be on the lookout for another goalie

Hindsight is 20/20. Remember earlier this season when Habs fans were saying the Avs had to acquire Price to win the SC? Months later and here we are. Kuemper outfield Koskinen.

If the Avs don’t win the SCF this coming PO then I imagine we’ll see a repeat of that same discussion next season.

I thought it was know to be pain killers. I assumed an operation was too risky so he choose to take those instead.

Having taken too much(got addicted), he decided to get operated… and we see with all the recent setbacks why it was risky.

He seems to be doing well now and I’d expect him to play for MTL at least a few games before anything happens.

I do think that with a 5M cap hit instead of 10 would be more then enough to attract interest if he has shown he is healthy and can still play. He will need to do that with MTL.

I would think Price will listen to see which teams have interest at that point. A bunch of teams would benefit from having healthy Price in nets.

Yes, he could choose to stay a Hab but I think he wants a chance to win the cup and the Habs window compared to his window don’t seem aligned.

surely he can't be back in Montreal next season but 10.5 million is going to be hard to move, of course Montreal could retain salary but even at 5.25 million that's going to be hard to move considering Parice hasn't played at/ all this year.

Does he get double retention? that would bring im down to 2.75 millio.

do the buy him out? -can they even do that under the circumstances?

what does Montr/eal do with him and if he does move where does he go?
The goal is to rush him back from injury so he can end his contract on LTIR. Win/Win for Price and the Habs.

Stop stats watching. Price got better results than his backups by pretty much the highest margin of anyone in the league over the Last few years. And i'm talking wins not sv%.

either he's healthy or not and if he is, in a league where guys like Smith and Mrazek gets millions contracts, Carey Price at 50% would get interest. Well he should.

Price was and still is a special goalie. He was still a star in net last playoffs. Ability is not fading like you think it is and this is a health issue, not an ability issue. Star goalies don't decline at rapid rates and Price is not some overweight goalie that stops pucks cause he's big like Giguere.

He's lean and in great shape at his age. He's just dealing with discomfort in his knee and they took their time with his recovery. We have to wait to see more sample size when he plays again and 3-5 games to finish the season is likely not enough
Aside from that playoff run he’s been an objectively below average goalie for most of the last half decade.

Price traded to Seattle for Grubs. No retention either way. No other parts to the trade. Just one for one hockey trade. It assumes Price is healthy and available for Seattle on day 1.

Not sure who this trade is worse for…

You don't voluntarily have your 10.5 million #1 goalie skip an entire season unless it's a grave injury. But the fact they haven't bought him out gives a hint they are still expecting him to recover. But then again, see what happened to Tuukka Rask. A season-ending/skipping lower body injury in a 30+ goalie isn't promising. Even if they recover, a year out of hockey at 30+ can be harsh to the "game face".

If you feel that way and the team he was on didn't factor in, don't trade for him then. Someone will and he will make them a better team. Hopefully not in the same division as you :sarcasm:

True and I think Price trade talk is too premature. He needs to play 3-5 games to finish this year and then be 100% healthy for next year. Maybe the real trade talk picks up at the 23 deadline heading into the offseason.

A lot depends on what happens from now till next year at this time.

I feel like creating a thread that says...

"What happens if the Leafs loose in the 1st round again"
* Buy out Muzzin and Mrazek?
* Trade Marner and Tavares and retain 50%?
* Fire BS/KD/SK?
That's weird.
Price is a special goalie
So you guys are mortified a Leaf fan wondered about the fate of a "Special Goalie"?
A leafs fan trying to stir up crap. Go figure. There’s no reason he can’t continue in Montréal. To suggest otherwise is just trolling.
See this could be an intelligent answer. "I think he stays with the club going forward".

Jumping from a question about his fate to "stirring up crap and trolling" comes off as unhinged.

I don't believe I have to explain to Hab fans they have an important team that we all pay attention to. We also wonder about your Cap situation and what summer moves you might make. Maybe you didn't know about the Bergeron and Letang rumors? What happens with Price will shape the future of (no more compliments) a noteworthy Franchise :P.

You need to chill. You can't freak out every time people are curious about your team.

Its not an entirely unreasonable suspicion for such a poorly thought out/researched premise.
