I don't think theres many left out there, at least not for hockey.

Reddit's hockey section is pretty popular, but there you have to put up with cringe shit like "good game bear bros." Its basically a bunch of nerds that've never played hockey in their lives acting like lifelong experts, while talking down on any physicality thats left in the game
hmmmm where doe's that remnd me of ?

logan/pai mei here.

in this thread: a bunch of complainers. no jodi wasn't around at the end. (maybe once a month for a day, if that) and the reason it wasn't renewed was because one former owner nuked the account of the current, and it wasnt worth it at that point to keep it up already. so that was that, and it was the right call. Forums are a thing of the past though, that's the real reason the community dwindled. As is the community here. HF is just a much bigger pool, so it'll take longer, but the signs are written all over the place here too.

we have a discord. @BoHorvatFan

God, I hope not. I'd miss HF quite a bit. Let's not let it happen.

forums are in the past for sure, reddit and discord are the future. honestly though i think forums are the better format

As expected, all kinds of opinions as to what was wrong with that site. Infusing politics with sports on a forum (or politics with anything) never goes in a good direction. I basically did the majority of my posting in the GDT's and perhaps that kept me from hating everyone...lol

Good to see ya Logan, I hope you're doing well. I know we disagreed on a lot of non-hockey related matters but you were always a good dude.

Are you referring to Armster and Raiden or did someone else step in?

As sad as it is I don't disagree with you. I've personally never been a fan of discord but unfortunately thats where forums are headed. I much prefer the well organized forums over people spamming garbage in discord and similar sites/apps.

I used to daily leafsconnected (kezio) and hated HFboards (still do). Always thought the discussions were better there but eventually the volume of posting started to slow down (years ago). It was a nice community even though there were rivalries and everyone would get at each other's throats at one point or another. I'll never forget that mofo uteck trolling the leafs during the decade of doom. In hindsight he was right I guess but I hated hearing it at the time . Some other good characters too but all good things come to an end I guess.

The major problem with reddit is it's impossible to have good discussion there. With the comment system based on upvotes all you see is the basic comments like you gave an example of. No one has interesting opinions or anything worth discussing. It's all the same shit

There were many many trolls there, Uteck was just a truly diehard Leafs fan who had let himself be driven around the bend by the team and by a bunch of people whom posted there. The biggest and perhaps the best troll on that site, was that Canadiens fan who called himself Nordic, he hammered in so many wedges between people that it really ceased to be funny, he was to put it plainly no better than an anarchist, perhaps he did what he was doing because of some bad stuff that happened in his life, although it really went further than just having a little fun, it was pretty close to being pathological, same could be said I suppose for Jodiju, who had some unresolved and sadly quite repressive identity issues as far as I could tell.

nordic never paid up on his lost bet. i bet him the sedins would *never* lead a team to cup in the height of their contending window, and we kept the bet going for years. in the end he disappeared. LIKELY out of fear of having to pay up. it was a sig bet, and i think simon nessman or someone was going into that sig slot lol.

Tristan28 from Leafsconnected here.

It's nice to see this thread. I stuck around leafs connected right to the bitter end. by that time, it sure as hell wasn't a hockey forum. There were non hockey parts of it that I really valued, like the movie and tv threads.

Sad to finally confirm it's dead, but it had to die. A couple of assholes were like the band on the titanic, playing the same old tune to the bitter end. If you didn't migrate there from the official board, and then to Central, and finally to Connected, I can only imagine why one would ever stick around. A sunk cost fallacy if ever there was one.

It'll be a real shame however if the Leafs finally go deep this year, and the LC group can't enjoy the success together, after nearly 20 years posting about this damn team.

Just wanted to echo those saying it was a great place. Always nice seeing familiar names here from back then.

Hey, just found this, again and just want to say hope all everyone is doing great.

I think you know who I am. lol

This and r/Leafs on reddit are the only places left on the internet to discuss the Leafs. Forums in general are dying on the internet and Reddit is taking over a lot of topics.

There's also Twitter and Facebook bit Twitter is an awful medium for discussion due the the character limit and Facebook is full of Don Cherry wannabes. It's kinda shocking how quick it went from something for young people to a place where your crazy 60 year old uncle does research on 5G conspiracies.

Reddit is awful for hockey talk. It's just people cracking bad jokes or echoing what they heard in the media. Anyone trying to share an opinion or talk about something in detail gets downvoted or ignored.

This thread was illuminating; the Leafs board here seems to possibly have a correlation with slowly getting worse and with Leaf fans from old dead forums migrating here.
