What happened to Joffrey Lupul?

Dude kind of just dissapeared. Had tons of skill, thought he'd eventually get it together.

Isn't it well known that after the back injury stuff Lupul wanted to play and the Leafs were like nope, we need the cap space?

Considering his hype, I wouldve thought he would've been signed somewhere. The hype was pretty crazy around him from what I remember.

Well he was signed....just with Toronto. Toronto then decided keeping him on LTIR was the better route.
 
It's all in here:
- He was injured pretty badly.

- He probably could've played through the pain, and wrecked his health for good.

- His production really wasn't great for his cap hit anymore, and Lou Lam offered to let him collect money to stay at home, which he gladly took.

- If he really wanted to continue playing and risk his health, he could have fought Lou and gotten a spot on the roster to the detriment of the team.

I had a lot of Maple Leafs fans in Toronto telling me that he was an elite winger and that he would be playing on Crosby's wing at the 2014 Olympics.

If you told them "well, I don't know about that", they would feverishly defend their opinion and say "Yes. He will be playing with Crosby at the Olympics. You will see".

You obviously have a Toronto centric opinion of him. There are only two players that ever donned the Oilers jersey that basically just gave up playing and floated and pouted... Lupul and POS (Patrick O Sullivan). Spoiled millionaire hockey player. Good riddance to the guy. At least Mike Comrie returned and made amends.

Well, playing along side Crosby, is a bit of an exaggeration. It wouldn't surprise me if that exaggeration were on your behalf though. We all know they would never break up him and Kunitz, along with Patrice Bergeron.

As far as the Olympics goes, in 11/12, he had the 8th most points among Canadian wingers, and he missed 16 games (which was a major part of his issues). He actually had the highest points per game of all Canadian wingers that year.

So, IF he could have stayed healthy (again, not his strong point), it's not a stretch to say he would have probably been on the 2014 team. He had a couple of years where he was one hell of a player.

As a Leafs fan, I did'nt think too highly of him to be honest. Talented player, but I didn't think much of him as a person.

He was a 22-year-old good looking hockey player getting to play in Southern California where he could go flirt with pretty California girls on the beach all year round.

Then he gets traded to Edmonton. The most northern NHL city on the map. Cold. Less sunshine. No beaches. No California girls.

All so Chris Pronger could enjoy having his trade request fulfilled.

Lupul was probably thinking: "Damn that Chris Pronger. He is almost as good looking as me, and much taller than me. Plus, he already has got himself a beautiful woman. What about me? I am just going to tank it in Edmonton so they trade me out of there".

No, the exaggeration wasn't on me at all, when the other people were the ones saying it.

I don't think Lupul had a chance at making the Olympic team. Too many other forwards way ahead of him on the radar. Plus, Lupul definitely wasn't a Babcock style player.

Not to mention Anaheim went on to win the cup and Lupul didn’t even make the playoffs with the Oilers that year.

Lupul was born and raised in Edmonton.

Also his uncle was part owner of the team at the time. Hence being the centerpiece of the trade for Pronger.

Pronger is/wasn't good looking though. Maybe it's his teeth.
