I've been ready to move on from Lalonde since the 2nd losing streak last season. The first one was one thing, but the responsibility for that kind of stretch happening twice in one season from a team that also showed it could be really good at other times fell squarely on the coach IMO.

With Montgomery available that would be the ideal option for me right now. Boudreau would have some potential too. Or Tanguay as @Frk It mentioned, if even as an interim to start. Pretty clear that it's time for a change though, whoever it ends up being.

Other than with a awful Columbus team, Gerard Gallant has never had a losing record. His resume is pretty solid. He's a former plyer, former linemate of Stevie's. I'd have to guess that he doesn't take any shit from anyone.

He led an expansion team to a record of 27 games over .500, in it's FIRST SEASON!!! That's crazy!

My only question is what is his relationship like with Stevie? If he would agree to a short term stint to get us through the season I think it's worth a shot. He knows how to get the most out of a team but it sounds like he wears out his welcome really quickly. I remember reading about the Kings when they had to let Andy Murray go. The GM told the players 'we had to let a good guy go because you guys are playing like crap, so now enjoy yourselves some Darryl Sutter!".

It's interesting to note how much they seem to be missing Perron. I wonder if the Wings could honestly just trade for him. Ottawa would probably pay you to take him. Put him on the 4th line, let him motivate. Hire him as an assistant coach after this year.

This is the first take I've seen that suggests there are locker room problems. Like not drama or conflict, but just... nothing. They don't have "the guy" who gets them hyped. Sure, coaches should do that, but you need players to do it, too.

Isn't Lalonde's record something around. 300 since March last year?
There several things to address, but let's take the 2 obvious ones, PK and getting badly outshot.

PK is 2nd last because the opponents have very easy entries to our zone. Then they set up and have at least 3-4 attempts to score. This should have been improved long ago so it is 2-3 attempts instead of 3-4. Our PK is terrible despite that Talbot has been almost great for us. Think about it a bit.

We get badly outshot and outplayed because Lalonde wants to change the people on the ice instead of keeping the puck possession. Take the example of last game. Compher skates to the blue line and then he dumps the puck and goes for the line change. The shark take the puck of course and can establish a new attack. This has been happening all season long.

Both these things are basic hockey, it is not some very complicated stuff.

Our PP is one of the best in the league, but we struggle to score 5 on 5. Why? Last season our offense was top 3 through December. Suddenly they can't score.

Yzerman's mistakes. Maatta is like light years better than Holl and Gustafsson. Those 2 are brutal. Holl plays 1 and maybe 2 games well, then he plays like shit.

I know he’s buddy buddy with Yzerman from their Tampa Bay days, but it’s time to make the change. Lalonde was always better suited as an assistant than a head coach. Seems like a decent guy and all, just hasn’t moved the needle when need be.

With that being said, Montgomery is available and Yzerman better have already called him in inquiring about his interest in being the wing’s next Head coach.

I dislike Lalonde currently as much as anyone but two franchises in very different stages. I do believe Lalonde should be on the very hot seat but it's likely an intern coaching situation if he's fired you would think. Starting fresh with a new coach and system, mid season seems like a recipe to make things go from bad to worse. Promote Tanguay and let him see if he can get some creativity out of these guys... the defense already sucks, so whatever.
