What do you think of Alex Kovalev?

Kovy was ****ing incredible. I can only hope we get to see another player with his talent with Montreal again someday. Fingers crossed for Galchenyuk in a couple years.. but the way Kovalev controlled the game when he was on was special.

What are you talking about? We never saw the best of Kovalev when he was here, those days were long gone. I think you are exaggerating what he did here for some reason. Great at times, mostly mediocre the rest. I mean, we just let the modern version of Kovalev (Vanek) take his suitcase to Minny for the same reasons Kovalev has his distractors.

Kovalev in Pittsburgh and NY was fun to watch... Kovalev in Montreal was mostly hair pulling.

He's talking about Kovy's talent and he did show plenty of that here. Kovalev had his 2nd best season here in Montreal and he was playing great that year. He was also close a to a point per game player in the playoffs with us. He wasn't as bad as you're trying to say.

We talking about the same guy who was wearing Rags gear during the ECF?
When two of the teams he had played for in the past clashed in the ECF he chose to get decked out in the wrong red white and blue?
we talking about that kovy right?
I think he's managed to move on before you

Jeez you expect him to wear a habs jersey at the madison square garden? That would be suicide. Kovy bled the bleu blanc rouge and made it very clear he loved his time as a montreal canadien.

Along with Jagr, I have never seen a better package of stickhandling, puck protection, and strength.

I loved every game he played, even the ones where people said he was floating. He was still better than every other team mate.

Ohh well guess he won't be playing to 50 afterall. Have a good retirement Alex and have fun flying around the world in your jet.

A year ago he retired from the NHL. Today he retired from hockey altogether. He was playing in the Swiss league last year.

Turned out to not be a complete idiot...

I can only laugh at people comparing Vanek with Kovalev. Kovalev was able to carry the puck, make plays, score goals, run a power play, deke everyone on the ice and carry a team by himself. Vanek is not half of the player that Kovalev was.

Love the trademark walk off the half boards, quick fake...

how about coming down the wing vs Boston in the playoffs then ripping one right under the bar

I don't know about my favorite kovalev memory, but here's a few that stand out.

Game 3 against Boston in 04

Coming off of injury against Ottawa... I think it was 2006. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

07/08 was the most dominant season by a habs forward since..... I can't even remember... The whole season is a memory.

There was also a patented cross ice one timer between kovalev and Markov... It was a real thing of beauty, and the best one was against Carolina in 07/08

2009 was a disaster, but kovy got real hot down the stretch and into the playoffs. I'll never forget the tying goal he scored in game 2, when he laserbeamed a shot from his signature spot right into the top shelf.... Even jack Edwards was excited after that goal.

You are so correct. Kovalev could change a game, any game, if he was motivated. Not many players can do that. Vanek definitely can't. Only Hab of today that can do it to the same extent is PK.

Kovalev was a boss.

I remember the day we got him, I think we were playing Phoenix, I was with my ex gf on a trip and I cancelled our evening plans so I could watch his debut.

I think he played 5 shifts and hurt his shoulder , haha.

Too bad he didn't change enuff games(any games) when he was with us, we may have won a cup or something

He did change some games, but at some point even Gretzky doesn't guarantee you a cup. So much a single player can do.
