Losses, exceptionally poor performance from the usual customers absent any signs of improvement, Hutson shining through struggles as player fails to take advantage of his dominance, even as he slows down due to a lack of experience with the NHL grind, diminished returns from Suzuki and Caufield attributable to the accumulation of wear and tear from the season, inconsistent but overall solid goaltending, a top 5-7 pick that will be squandered.

Caufield often shines at the end of the season. He finished with 8 goals in his last 9 games last season.

I expect a better performance from the forwards, specifically Slaf, Dach, Newhook and Laine.

But we will still lose a bunch because we can't sustain the loss of Guhle.
And the loss of Heineman apparently. Though I think both the losses of Heineman and Guhle could be mitigated better if we put similar players in their roles - Slaf where Heineman was, Laine where Slaf was, and Struble where Guhle was. Yes, Struble in for Guhle is the key drop off. But Struble is a gamer. See if he can't adjust in a defensive shut down role.

#1. Trades at deadline - 4 players moved.

#2. Injuries - guys will shut it down and have surgery.

#3. Auditions - we will see a lot of Beck, Mailloux, Engstrom and Roy

#4. Top 10 pick - I put the over/under at 7

Honestly I think it will be fun and they will compete hard.

I expect that the guys we are dumping will have little value, but will do much better once they are on a team without a huge media presence that has nothing to do but dump on them. Probably .500 or worse and, post lottery, probably 8th or 9th pick, solidly into lower tier players unless someone drops.

The team can play, at least sometimes, but they need to turn over a lot of players to win playoff series. Better D, better bottom 6, better second line.
