What do we do with Bunting?

I like what Bunting brings (brought?) to the team. He was our new, lesser version of what Zach Hyman was. But geez, in the last couple months he has been horrible and has played like a complete moron.

How so? Completely different players. Bunting is like a homeless man’s version of Marchand. Hyman is a grinder and elite forechecker. Bunting has no standout skill other than pissing people off.

Leafs took a major step down and backwards thinking Bunting could replace Hyman.

It was a major managerial mistake letting Zach go.

Bunting's ability to play on the first line with Matthews and Marner and be that forechecking type. For the first half of this season he was doing a great job of it. Produced the last two years similarly as Hyman when he was here and playing on that line. Let's not compare the Hyman of today playing with and scoring crazy amounts with McDavid.

But I definitely think it was a mistake having let Hyman go, and we can see why. He was the heartbeat of this team.

I don’t see a Bunting as anything more than average when it comes to forechecking. I actually think Jarnkrok has done a better job in that regard because of his speed and stick skills. Bunting is an average skater and lightweight, which doesn’t help him at all in that area.

I think Bunting has really hurt his own value these past few months.

At the start of the season, you were probably talking 4/5 million per in order to re-sign him. Now I’m not sure I’d go over 2.5 million per.

He’s nothing more than a bottom six player.

Bunting Gordie-Howe'd the guy. That's it. There was a time when the refs would look the other way on this sort of stuff because it's a player guarding against physical engagement from the other player. It was seen as a reasonable defense against physical play by the opposition. Because Bunting didn't seek out the collision like on a forecheck or "finishing the check", I'd like to think it won't be treated as predatory. But this is the modern NHL and the petty stiffs who populate their front office love these opportunities to make a statement especially one that sours the relationship between a Leafs' player and his team and/or fan base.

Parros must have suffered a concussion trying to decide Bunting's fate
