What do we do with Bunting?

Funny how this all worked out.

He went from being a legit Hyman replacement to being a black sheep of the fanbase. Some folks around here are very fickle.

It has nothing to do with being fickle.

He use to draw PP chances, then Dan Kelly pushed him off the ice, and now he doesn't draw enough PP chances.

Now he just takes calls,if you are lucky it will be 4 on 4 usually not.

he needs to get his shit together and stop taking calls.

He's not on pace for a contract renewal.

Knies is his replacement.

Is he? Or is Hedman kerfoots?

As soon as he leaves the leafs and goes somewhere else I’m sure he won’t be blacklisted by the league anymore. Unfortunately it’s probably the best for both sides to move on.

If the league has affected the upcoming playoff games by allowing its officials to harrass a player based on events outside of the game; That is game fixing. If the Leafs team has to make changes to its lineup because they know the officials will target one of their players unfairly, thats game fixing.

I really like Bunting but I love OReilly and Acciari better.

Bunting defensive zone coverage isn't very good. Also his problem with the refs.
Also Knies will be in his spot next yr
We also have Jamcrok

Changing your opinion after receiving more information isn’t ‘fickle’ it’s the mature approach most would take.

Also worth noting that Hyman himself went from "Babcock's son", aka a black sheep unworthy of playing with Auston Matthews and William Nylander, to departed hero in need of replacing.

That was certainly one of the dumber era's of this place.

He struggled to start the year but he really isn't that different than last year. Literally the only difference is him being constantly antagonized by the officiating.

He was quite beloved last year

I'm conflicted with Bunting, because there is a version of Bunting that LOVE and want to keep, that version was on full display against Montreal.

However there is also a version of this player that I am more then fine moving on from, and although not on full display there were flashes of that last night, namely his stupid offensive zone penalty that he did not need to take.

And that's the thing with Bunting, for all the good he does there is A LOT of good, he takes to many calls and doesn't draw enough PP chances to balance it out.

Can you at least let them finish losing to Tampa before starting this thread?

Even strength with Matthews:
Bunting - 714.34 minutes, 31 points = 1 point per 23.04 minutes
Jarnkrok - 144.62 minutes, 9 points = 1 point per 16.07 minutes

Even strength with Marner:
Bunting - 386.09 minutes, 12 points = 1 point per 38.52 minutes
Jarnkrok - 266.17 minutes, 14 points = 1 point per 19.01 minutes

Even strength with Nylander:
Bunting - 494.94 minutes, 21 points = 1 point per 23.57 minutes
Jarnkrok - 76.17 minutes, 7 points = 1 point per 10.88 minutes

Not only is Jarnkrok far more productive with our top players, he is miles better defensively than Bunting and a key PK'er

ROR comes first and then Bunting .. but likely he is gone and gets his fair market value which is right for him
Reasonable

We need to keep him. Wouldn't give him anything more than $4 Mil though.

3.5-3.75 x 6

Micky got 4.75M - that's a fairly reasonable comparison IMO. Doubt he signs for much less and doubt we want to sign him for that.
He's a Toronto kid that took less to come here when he was making nothing. I think with the right term, he would take a discount. 3.75 by year 5/6 shouldn't be anything to worry about.

he's going to be the next Kerfoot the second he goes 10-15 games without a goal on the 3rd line (again) at that price. I don't expect the same kind of production with limited minutes and a middle-6 role, and I think we have others who can replace him with the same/similar output.

7 forwards signed, 6 D signed and 1 G for 14 players total AAV is $76M incl Muzzin and other LTIR in .. with CAP at 83.5M .. GM only has 7.5M new AAV for 7 players assuming no trades .. even with Muzzy on LTIR again that is 13.1M for 7 players .. probably need to trade Murray to free up CAP to sign both ROR and Bunting and maintain playing roster

Hopefully that was his last shift as a Leaf

Heat of the moment acknowledged, but between this and the whole war with the refs thing....I don't see how we can afford to bring him back.
