Pens get the pick at 14. I prefer next year is they may be in some real decline next year with aging stars and cap space. Not sure what they were thinking with Miller trade.

They have 4 games until the deadline. I think they need to come out of that around .500 if Drury is going to make a selling move. Even then, it's hard because they're in a good position to potentially have the tie breaker should they find themselves tied with a wild card spot. These next couple of games without Fox may be the white towel falling on the rink.

If somehow they come out of that with 3 out of 4 wins, I fear what Drury is going to do as a buyer.

That's a good question---what will Drury do.

If it were me I'd be selling if nothing else the upcoming UFA's---namely Lindgren, Smith, Vesey anyway. I think the Rangers will want to find another home for Zac Jones.

Kreider would be for sale but I wouldn't sell him cheap. Apparently he's been dealing with back issues all season or some extended part of it. I'm not convinced he's on a decline. I'm more convinced Mika is. It has been a down year for Chris for sure. Last year he was a 39 goal 70 point player and in the last 3 playoffs he's put in 24 goals in 43 games against playoff quality opponents. Prorate that to an 82 game season and that works out to about a 45 goal season. If he rebounds next year to somewhere around where he was his $6.5 mil contract will be great for whatever team he's playing for. If he doesn't well---it's still not a contract that kills a team if he just knocks in 25 pucks which he might do this year if he's not out too much longer.

Zibanejad I would absolutely move. I just don't think it's going to be easy at all. Might hurt more to get some other team to take him than it would be worthwhile for us as far as retention and other assets that might have to go with him to make it happen.

Those are my thoughts. How Drury sees things could be a lot different.
I could definitely see Kreider ++ to Carolina for Rantenen. Carolina wants to win now, but are not happy with Rantenen. Rantenen isn't happy with Carolina. Carolina needs to re-coup for Drury and Necas.
That's a smart trade for both teams (and players) assuming Kreider gets healthy.

I think you will see them potentially move out Lindgren, Smith, Vesey, Kaliyev, Jones.

Less likely Kreider, Miller, Panarin.

I don’t think they will be trading for picks. Probably more likely trying to get guys and extend them that fit drurys vision more likely trying to grab guys like Borgen and Miller so either make trades for guys they want and extend or with some term.
It would be amusing if they sold at the TDL but still made the playoffs and played the Caps round one. Would mean they basically switched spots with last year’s caps

Sell the FA's, move Kreider & Zibanejad ideally. What I'd really like to see is the Rangers retaining salary for other teams to pick up extra picks at the deadline. They've got all 3 retention slots open at this point

Just looked up Zib’s contract and good lord…. There is no moving that!

Currently as it stands the New York Rangers are battling for their playoff lives sitting 2 points out.

But With Adam Fox, KA Miller and Chris Krider all out with injury the question becomes what do they do?

It's the NYR, they don't sell, and if they do it doesn't last.

I remember that rebuild letter they wrote to fans a few years ago that rebuild lasted about 5 minutes.

Point is I'm sure some fans want a rebuild I don't think It's going to happen It's not the Ranger way.

unless they go on losing streak between now And March 7th, think they make a push.
Ask JT.... he knows everything.

It's also worth noting that what you are calling the "Rebuild" letter never once mentions a rebuild. It simply states that they want to lay the foundation for the Rangers next Stanley Cup Champion.

The metaphorical phrase "lay the foundation" comes from what process? Surely something different than from where the metaphorical phrase "rebuild" comes from ...

How good is Zac Jones? In the few games I saw him play, he looked impressive especially with his skating. With that said, it was only a few games so I must be missing something on why he's not playing many games.

I think what most likely winds up happening is they make moves with next year in mind. So they're going to be one of those weird teams that both buys and sells. Too injured this year with too many guys having bad seasons to go all-in on a big splash rental, so they'll sell off some pieces they no longer like (Lindgren, Kreider, Jones, potentially Lafreniere) to bring in guys they think will put them back in contender status next year. And let the chips fall where they may this season.

As long as they go into the deadline knowing this season is a lost cause, they'll be fine. But, to play devils advocate, this is a team lead by Chris Drury who just traded top notch futures for a 31 year old player on the downward slope of his prime, so it would be the most Rangers shit ever for them to acquire whoever the hotness rental is, still miss the playoffs, and have zero draft capital or good prospects for the next 5 years.

Good skater, good puck handler, can't defend worth a shit and he's undersized therefore he gets his cheeks clapped below the goal line and along the boards.

You can have one of those types of guys on your team at any given time. The reason he hasn't gotten a legitimate shot here is because we have Adam Fox and he's the poor man's version of Adam Fox.

By 'a few years ago' you mean 7 years ago when they released a letter claiming they would be 'reshaping' the team and never once mentiond the word 'rebuild'? How is that a 'rebuild letter'?

Left handed Adam fox. Needs to be on the PP and get ozone starts.
