What do Czech people think about Hašek remarks on Russian players ?

The Dominator has been the biggest hater of Russian athletes in the entire Europe, it seems.

He’s been criticizing NHL for allowing Russians to play and even for having 9 Russians represented in the All Star game. His latest outburst was directed at the NHL for letting Ovechkin’s son participate in the ASG.

It got to a point where Bettman had to respond to him:

I don't think he speaks either for the Czech government or people, but he's entitled to his opinion. Which I disagree with, by the way, just so the record is clear.

The legendary netminder Dominik Hasek called out the NHL last night for their use of Alex Ovechkin's son as a heinous act in the political debate between Russia and Ukraine.

He didn’t stop at hockey, he’s been writing letters to the ATP and WTA to ban Russians from tennis tournaments.

This is the same Hašek who took Russian money to play in the KHL in 2010-2011 after Russia - Georgia war. Why wasn’t he so consistent about his Russian hate ?

I want to ask the Czech posters, @Czechboy and others, do you support this extreme hatred towards Russian athletes by Hasek who was fine with Russia in 2010 when he was paid substantially? I don’t see Jagr going this route.

Hasek comes across as very self-serving though.
He had no problems taking Putin’s $ when he played in the KHL. And this was not long after Russia rolled into Georgia.

It’s only when the Czech Republic is affected does Hasek start spewing his anti-Russia rhetoric.

Lots of support for Hašek, and many people thank him for taking the stance that he does, as can be seen from the replies to his tweets.

And, of course, Hašek doesn't hate any particular nation. When South Africa and its citizens were, for decades, isolated from all international events and undertakings including sporting ones, it wasn't because anyone "hated South Africans".

Hašek argues that the same approach is necessary today, and many people both inside Czechia and elsewhere agree with him.

Nobody cared when Russia invaded Georgia, horrible atrocities were committed in Chechnya, Crimea was stolen, or Syria was being carpet bombed. Nor did anybody significantly criticize Russian players for supporting Putin.

This is not true.. He said many times he feels sorry for all russian players who disagree with russian politics, but allowing them play and celebrating them is being used by russian propaganda as a symbol of their glory and he disagrees with NHL being part of that..

ALL atrocities should be condemned, not only when it’s politically advantageous to do so.

Europe and the US are not perfect. Far from it. There were some Swedish (where Im from ) kings in the 17-18th century that maybe acted somewhat similar to what Russia is doing today. They invided places in Europe with armies to make Sweden larger. Yet that was 3-400 years ago. This is year 2023, its not modern, it is out of date and CRINGE to conduct a slow meat grinder war (with incredible suffering) like this in the modern world now.
