I saw a recent interview with Bill Corgan where he said the intro to Cherub Rock was lifted right from By-Tor and sure enough he wasn't lying (link to the spot):

Just bought Rush's Hemispheres cd and listening to it. Surprised I did not have it, have most of their catalogue except last two or 3 cds. Had it back in day on different media, album, 8 track or cassette cant recall. Never noticed I did not have it on cd.

I love By-Tor and The Snow Dog, early Rush is my favorite, especially 2112.

Portnoy tells a fun story about that whole part especially up closer to 4:18 where they start the syncopated rhythms...it wasn't Dream Theater I think but he was part of a group that did a cover of that and they actually did it wrong count-wise because Portnoy's Fly by Night vinyl had a scratch and a skip during that bit. So he always played along to it in one rhythm when the actual song had an extra 1-2 notes in.
