Speculation: What are the Bruins' needs?

For me it is the power play. This has been a chronic sore spot since Claude took over.

Whether Claude should get another PP coach or start using different players I do not know but something has to be done. The Bruins got away with a terrible PP when they won the Cup but that is most unlikely to happen again.

Rangers also still trying to get that PP thing down....

Ok, we've got an idea of Bruins wants.

I'm NOT sure it can be done, but I'd like to see if there is a win-win that offers Boston serious return, but not including Kreider, for Dougie Hamilton.

I say not including CK because that's too much coke for pepsi.

Is there any combination that works?

I think 27 is showing that he will be going no where for a long, long time.

Edit: Seguin needs a playmate. There is not one guy on the team that can skate with him and he seems to playing slow to attempt to stay in sync with his line mates. The type of player that Seguin needs would not be easy to get. A Marty St. Louis type. The kid should be owning the PP. He gets no looks and everyone knows he the only shooter out there. Bruins are gonna have to bite the bullet and spend/trade to improve.

Hamilton isn't going anywhere. Even if Kreider was available, he alone doesn't start the conversation to me.

The PP. I really think this team needs a skilled lefty. Maybe Marchand can develop some of that in his game (he's not a true PPQB but I think his offense is underrated)... Spooner has the potential to be a true PPQB, but isn't ready yet...

3LW. I know a lot of people look at that spot as completely insignificant but this team is built around depth and if that spot is a problem then the whole 3rd line loses it's effectiveness and our supposed depth advantage goes out the window. (And if someone in the top6 gets injured, you're basically icing 2/3rds of the Providence Bruins as your 3rd line.)

I hope Bourque delivers. He's in a good situation with a good coach who will get the most out of him, but I think that if that line could add more of a power guy (like a Ryan Clowe) that that style of player would give the B's the depth they rely on and make them much harder to play against in the playoffs. Maybe that's something they consider at the deadline.

Hamilton to deveop. It's unfair to expect anything from Hamilton beyond just learning from his mistakes, but this defense does need mobility and puck moving savvy on the back-end. and with a player like Hamilton already on the team, it doesn't make much sense to trade for it.

Rask to stand and deliver. He did it once before but the position was much more competitive then. Lack of competition is never a good thing, IMO. Maybe Dobby eventually puts pressure on Rask for the job but going into the season, the job is Rask's and it'll be interesting to see how he handles that. Will he be driven to not only take the reigns but carry the team, or will he lose a little of his competitive edge without a legend like Thomas around to push him?

Can't disagree w/ any of this. Absolutely agree on the 3rd line. That line being able to contribute when 1a and 1b are drawing the focus; is as vital to this team as 1a's on other teams pulling their weight. Habs series? Don't mean to pile on Bourque, absolutely want him to have his shot. Add the PP woes, and the importance of 5 v 5 production gets that much higher for this bunch. The last thing I want is Micheal Ryder envy in the playoffs.

I don't think Subban would be a good fit on this team. To much of a showboat. And we'd lose to much O.

Meh, I think Seguin slides up on the top line with Looch and Horton and Spooner cracks the 2nd line with Marchy-Bergy...

Subban-Chara
Seidenberg-Hamilton
McQuaid or Boychuk-Ference

Our PP could use the boost...

1st PP unit

Lucic-Seguin-Horton-Subban-Chara

2nd unit

Marchand-Bergeron-Spooner-Hamilton-Boychuk

I wouldn't move Seguin off of RW except in an emergency. Also, I really think Subban would be a cancer in the lockerroom. Sorry, just my opinion.

I don't think so. He's got a good thing going with Price and I think him, Seguin and Marchand would get along great.

Why on earth would you think that? I've seen other people express this sentiment before and I just don't get it. He seems like a great kid, and aren't him and Marchand supposedly buddies off the ice? With his talent, and his brother in our system, I wouldn't say no. (Realistically no way it happens though)

Bolded above. This is just MY opinion.

As much as Krejci's inconsistent play drives me nuts, taking him out of the equation creates a pretty gaping hole in your top 6, unless you're bringing a winger back and moving the kid to center.

LW

My qualms about the d have been, at least, temporarily assuaged.

My focus goes back to scoring and keeping that top 9 solid. I don't dislike Bourque - but I think that position could be stronger.

I don't see PC landing Benn, or anyone of that ilk, but I can still see him dealing with Dallas depending on where they're at later in the season.

When I look at the Western teams for this winger position - looking at guys who will be UFAs - guys who have scored at least 20 goals before... there are two candidates that rise to the top of my list:

Brendan Morrow
Ryan Clowe

Brendan, I know, he's had some injury history - if you talk with Dallas fans they say he isn't what he once was (aren't we all?) - but this is a guy who can bring it - he's a hockey player.

Ryan Clowe - I know there are some guys who love him and some that hate him. I think he'd be more difficult to acquire than Morrow. He's younger, he's been healthier and many folks still peg the Sharks to go deeper than the Stars.

But, if I was PC, and I didn't have to give up a roster player, these are two guys that I think can fit into the locker room, the system and can contribute in many areas.

Do we have the assets to get either? I dunno, I think our cupboards, while not bare, they're not filled to the brim either.

I suspect SJ would still be in a win-now mode and want a roster player back and, depending on how Dallas does, they might be more apt to take picks, prospects.

Have to say i agree ,I was hoping kid could get it done and its still early but i think you are right,Morrow be the answer for sure,

Some think the bleu blanc rouge puts an indelible mark on a player.

Can't stand Krejci's inconsistency. It's what seperates him from the truly elite players in this league. I would move him in a heartbeat for a great winger like Ryan, Perry, Iginla, etc. (even it means adding) and move seguin to center were I think he is better suited.
