This was my favorite season by quite a bit. I loved 2017-18 but losing four strait to Vegas left a really bitter taste in my mouth and it has never gone away. That kind of set the tone for more than a half decade where an internally embattled team would often reach the playoffs just to get rolled in 4 strait (after one win) with some sort of player drama (Trouba, Buff hitting the wall, Laine, PLD).
Not this season though. Right from the start it was different. The journey was pretty much as good as it gets and our team seemed to answer every challenge. Everyone bought in from day one and that led to a Presidents trophy out of the smallest, coldest, least desirable market to free agents which is a major accomplishment. Then it was off to the playoffs and we finally had a team with heart that fought for each other. My son was old enough (grade 11) to go to the street party with his friends, he was there for the miracle game 7 win that will go down in history. My daughter and her mom were in the seats while I was sick but watching at home. Who will ever forget that one. Lastly we had a great series with Dallas and we finally fought until the end and suffered a stinging loss in OT. We finally didn’t quit and the team restored my hope that we can win it all if we can get a bounce at the right time.
Thanks Arnie and the coaches for crushing it. Thanks to the ownership group for at least trying to improve the game day experience, the food, and being a bit more fan friendly. You are directionally correct now, keep grinding. Thanks mostly to the fans for the White out magic that finally provided the home ice advantage. You are smart (should have kicked it), loyal (MVP to the end), and you put your best foot forward for our city.
I won’t forget this season ever and that is coming from a guy that hates to lose. Only one team gets to lift the cup but finally a Jets team that never gave up! I am incredibly proud of them and the memories they created for me and my family.
