What’s going on with Zegras?

What’s a fair offer in your opinion then?

Don't think there is one. The Ducks are good for the future in goal and on D. They have a deep system and have had around a dozen picks in rounds 1-3 the last two years, and have not just the high end prospects but also a deep roster of B prospects.

At this point what they need most is what they hope guys like Zegras and McTavish turn into. I doubt they're getting that back.

The Ducks have three young centres. They would be foolish not to trade one. And clearly the one they prefer to move is Zegras. At some point a rebuild needs to turn the corner.

You're betting a lot on what McTavish hasn't done yet. At least Zegras has managed 2 seasons at a 2C level. McTavish has never even pulled that off for a quarter of a season, and I think you're projecting defense and grit on him that hasn't yet been realized.

Honestly given his strengths (board work, heavy shot) McTavish may ultimately be the one better suited for wing.

We also have 3 young wingers and three young defenders. Trading zegras on the cheap achieves what exactly in terms of helping the ducks turn the corner other than liberating us from our potential star forward?

Zegras for Kadri? Flames add a second?

I mean we technically have 4 young centers

Zegras Carlsson McTavish Gauthier

Id personally rather try McTavish/Gauthier on wing and let Carlsson/Zegras go down the middle

McTavish is a plus 4 at centre. Zegras is a minus 5 at centre. The coach is trying to win games.

McTavish is a plus 4 at centre.

He's -1 on the year.

Zegras is a minus 5 at centre.

He's only had 2 games at C this year and is even in those.

The coach is trying to win games.

Then use a stat better than +/-. For example:

Last year the Ducks were at a .360 pt%.

With McTavish in the lineup they were at .377.

With Zegras in the lineup they were at .419.

Who helps them win more again?

Imo plus minus needs to be combined with points scored to see the actual impact a player has for their club. MacT is a plus 4. His club is ahead when he’s on the ice. He’s clearly a keeper. Of their three top centres Zegras is imo the guy they will move.

Okay hold on, you're telling me that the most iffy stat in hockey, plus points, is more indicative of impact on winning than ... actual wins and losses?

That's like saying after losing game 7, oh no actually we won that series since we had a positive goal differential.

Besides which, +/- plus points essentially double counts ES points, gives a bonus for PP usage (McT having had the benefit of PP1), and gives a player a pass on bad penalties that resulted in PP goals against or wiping out PP opportunities.

But fine let's play along. Since we only have 2 games this year plus the last 11 from last year where Zegras played C, here are his numbers:
13 GP 2G 7A +4

So by your "calculation" Zegras is actually +13 in his last 13 games at center and is blowing McTavish away.

McTavish game prob translates to winger better than zegras... if you can bring the best out of zegras by playing him center, and still get good out of mctavish off wing, why wouldnt you

I think he’s just going through some growing pains on a terrible team, and will bounce back eventually. But please unload him and send him to NY.
As a Rangers fan it pains me to say this- but NY has exactly the stupid ass fans that would want this player. Too many fans looking for names and ownership looking to sell jerseys/tickets= no cups

He skates aropund like he's afraid to be hit.......
Would fit great in ny. We love talented players who don’t give a crap about winning.
